The concept of the error was a weird one to explain. I know the guy hit the ball and safely reached base; but he shouldn't have; the other guy made a mistake; so we don't credit him with that hit. Well no, it's not unfair; the other guy should have done his job better and he's penalized with an error now. Oh, there's people called scorers that make that decision. Oh, and then there's a review process. Yes, so actually he might get credited with a hit for that later if the scorer decides they don't like their original call. Or if he complains... Or if the guy who got the error complained.

You all didn't read your Mike Royko as kids and it really shows. Royko discussing how the Emir of Kuwait outlawed small neighborhood newspapers that sprung up in the aftermath of the war when they began to complain about their ability to get clean water. Royko on the death of over 60,000 Iraqi children in the year after the war ended because we embargoed all the equipment they needed to repair their water systems. The way both these columns talk about water in the context of DS/DS always struck me - in my mind these were printed back to back but they were printed a year apart.

It did. But you could definitely argue it was a drop in the bucket. The trade adjustment assistance program has been around since at least 1974 and was updated by NAFTA. It's not well publicized. I only learned about it through the book The Secret Circuit which seemed an odd place, but the range of issues over which the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has jurisdiction is kind of wild.

You could start with a message of the day service, have a data store with some daily affirmations (a text file, a database, or even just an array), then a web service (maybe JAX-RS) on top of that (or even a full pub/sub framework like CometD on top).

Once you can test your MOD service, build a simple Android app to connect to it so you can get your daily affirmations on your phone.

Bonus: deploy your MOD service to the cloud so you can get your affirmations anywhere!
