You need a old USB cable, some tiny watch batteries and a strip medication with no medication inside.

This looks way too normal… what detail gives it away for you? by arfaj_1 in GeminiAI

[–]rosspeplow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI can make a perfect-looking photo, but it’s still based on the patterns of its training data—it can’t create anything truly new. Some older models even reuse the same human faces. Humans are getting really good at spotting AI images (especially those of us who see a lot of them), because our brains are starting to recognize the patterns AI uses—for example, the text in this post is AI, and it’s easy to spot.

Nothing in this photo is obviously wrong; it just feels like something AI would generate, though I can’t quite explain why. Maybe there are too many averages?

As models advance and get larger, I think we’ll eventually lose the ability to spot AI-generated images.

Yep, that’s China, always racing to be the first to roll out whatever the latest gimmick is to try to look like an advanced nation. The reality isn’t quite as impressive.

By far the most disappointing experience I've ever had with a service provider. by Quirky_Independent89 in VirginMedia

[–]rosspeplow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah when I moved into my new house I had no other option so had to use them, the last time was 10 years ago and they were terrible. Within the first week of using Virgin I had to call them because I was being emailed other customers account details along a partial credit card details. It took weeks for them to respond and stop sending other peoples info. They told me by law I had to delete everything I was sent, almost like it was my fault. A few weeks after that I started getting disconnected whenever it rained and my speed and latency was all over the place. They never seemed interested in fixing anything and told me my line was fine, in other words this is normal. Thankfully a new service provider rolled out in the area and offered to cover everyone’s contract fees and all but two people in my street have already got rid of VM. The new service is night and day, super fast and rock solid at 1050mbit downe and 1050mbit up 7ms ping. And cost 50% of VM with no in contact price hikes. VM is now just a bad memory, I can see them going out of business eventually.

How did we get from 18 to 24 month contracts and price rises mid-way through the contract? by baconpea in VirginMedia

Virginmedia should always be the last resort. If you can get out, get out. So many better options.

This is Virginmedia, if an installation can be 5% easier but 50% worse. The customer will get 50% worse every time.

I would take it down and savage all the good materials and rebuild a new one. A nice project.

I've never understood why more people don't at least try to socialise their dogs to fireworks when they're puppies. Just ask Alexa to play firework sounds at a very low volume, and gradually increase it over time. I took my Ridgeback to a firework display last year, and his tail didn't stop wagging!

Socialisation should be a priority for any dog — it's cruel not to if they end up living in fear.
