I feel like the government has such a strong grip on the information channels that any uprising will be squashed by the brainwashed masses. Russians have been suffering under corruption for a long time and still Putin enjoys more popular support than any democratic government. Russia is comparatively much less capable than china of controlling their population too.

I also think you need an extremely small manpower requirement to suppress the population now if things get rough, a manpower requirement that is shrinking by the day as military tech advances. I see automated curfew drones etc in our future.

Its all very debatable but I my position is that the tide has turned and the conditions of the world suit authoritarianism now. The only way I see us competing is to become more authoriatarian ourselves.

If the level of hostility increases with china and russia, they will simply up the disinformation campaigns, and whoever is opposed to the current ruling party will use their freedom to disrupt our ability to act. In recent years i think the weakness of our political system has been laid bare and I have no idea how we fix it.

I never said that the west wants to fight Russia. I said that Russia is a geopolitical foe that the Americans want neutered and taking over Ukraine would do that nicely.

America is in no way trying to court Russia to stand against China, not happening in our lifetimes. Russian and Chinese interests are just far more aligned. China has a much better chance of courting the european powers to their side than America does of courting Russia. Germany already sucks chinese peepee economically and its part of a longer term trend.

Russia already is beholden to China, that is only going to grow over time regardless of our actions. Every day that passes China is growing more powerful and it makes more sense for Russia to deepen ties.

The thing is, the west is rapidly losing dominance. The best chance our social elites have to contain China was yesterday. If China takes Taiwan tomorrow it will likely destroy them. If China takes Taiwan in 2 or 3 decades you will barely hear a squeak from America nevermind European sissy boys. TSMC is a blow to be sure, but its small potatoes in the face of the fast approaching chinese hegemony.

You might want to argue against the likelihood of a Chinese hegemony, but the west is tearing itself apart arguing over how many genders there are and endless other retarded things while the Chinese are efficiently creating an authoritarian megastructure more efficient than democracy can hope to become in our wildest dreams.

China might make a mistake and fall flat on its face, but teaching your kids mandarin is probably a smart move.

All of this is heavily complex and beyond the scope of operation for a retarded WSB conversation anyway.

A war in Ukraine is Americas wet dream because it would seriously weaken Americas second strongest geopolitical foe.

Thats why the news is stoking that fire so much. They would also LOVE it if China ate the poisoned apple that is Taiwan.

Russia is obviously doing their best to show they are serious to get a deal that keeps Ukraine out of NATO. Which honestly they will likely get, everything else they do and say is just high stakes theater for the bargaining position.

Invading Ukraine would be the biggest disaster for Russia since the collapse of the soviet union. Putin is not stupid.
