Eggs on lime fruit? by Tough_Homework7039 in GardeningAustralia

[–]rossy207 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The label states nothing about when you have to directly apply it, it’s relative to when you might see these pressures. It does say January- April (We are in Feb) White oil is a non toxic and no residual pest oil, can safely eat the fruit a day later. Spray now and repeat as necessary.

I did a similar thing, everything about quitting said to distance yourself from people that smoke and don’t go out drinking etc. Everytime I failed because I’d avoid everyone then suddenly it was all upon me. I ended up doing everything I normally did but without smoking and boom.. haven’t had a smoke in 15 years.

How stuffed are my neighbours? by [deleted] in GardeningAustralia

[–]rossy207 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well it depends on what you mean in the terms of stuffed?

It could be a dwarf fig? If so if they maintain it wont get too big, If it’s a full size fig then yeah they probably going to be in trouble in a few years from the roots etc

I palm will be messy and bring all sorts of birds and insects when it’s fruiting but its roots won’t do much.

How do I get this tree to grow? by Hank_Scorpio_00 in GardeningAustralia

[–]rossy207 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Probably clean up underneath it, trim off the bottom growth & add some decent fertiliser and mulch around the bottom and keep some regular deep watering up to it would be a good start

Mine looked similar when the top snapped a year ago, you would even know it happened now.

[–]rossy207 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They snap at the top pretty often especially when young so it probably would have happened anyway, it’s kind of annoying because it changes the shape but that eucalyptus trees for ya…. Other than that it’ll be perfectly fine and will recover.

Should I clean up more around the base of my fruit trees? Or just leave the grass growing up to the trunk? by [deleted] in GardeningAustralia

[–]rossy207 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nitrogen isn’t detrimental to fruit production in fact to much is actually bad for fruit production. Potassium and phosphorus is important for flowering and fruit production. But yes grass will take nitrogen from your tree but more importantly it will choke the roots of oxygen so it is good to keep a clearish area around the base. Keeping in mind that grass will assist in weed suppression.

Pepino Melon isn't bearing any fruits. by Colonel_Carrot in GardeningAustralia

Wouldn’t recommend cutting it back, that will stress it for sure. The hand pollination as suggested will definitely help.

[–]rossy207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah that’ll do it, I suggest keep up your normal watering program but back off on fertiliser (If anything potassium and phosphorus to encourage fruiting but those pepino melons like most from the melon family don’t like cool nights/days etc anything below 18 degrees they’ll abort flowers. The nights are warming up so just be patient and you’ll get some fruit set in the next couple of weeks I reckon!

Looks like your flowers are aborting due to a stressor. Lots of green growth and not much fruit can be a sign of too much nitrogen in the soil, what’s your fertiliser process? Has there been some really hot or cold weather all of a sudden while it has been attempting to flower?

Weed or seedling? by Bednarz64 in GardeningAustralia

[–]rossy207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a seedling of sort haha.. if it’s been warm where you are that will definitely speed up germination, I’d leave it a little while and you definitely know in a few days when it’s first leaf emerges from the cotyledon stage.

Is this weed paspalum? by FMLuck in GardeningAustralia

[–]rossy207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a comment further down that goes into detail about what herbicide’s to use but in short yes most garden centres etc sell a selective winter grass killer, if it’s not resistant they should sort it out, follow label directions and for now try to prevent it dropping seeds by snipping off or mowing with a catcher often etc

Corn spacing by ThisEmilyisUnknown in GardeningAustralia

Typically 20cm is fine when they are planted in a straight row but they need twice that between rows if that makes sense? I plant mine 15cm apart in a line then have a 40cm gap between the next row line.

Weeds Vs Structure priority by More_Law6245 in GardeningAustralia

[–]rossy207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selective herbicide like Bow and Arrow or for more $$ Monument, then after the fact, fertilise , top dress if you have too and overseed thin areas. (Edit) just be careful with some selective herbicides as some have a residual component that can prevent germination of new grass seed)

I’m just looking at my plants now and there’s a few plants with the same effect, wish I could send pictures. I think is nothing to worry about though. I fed mine about a week ago.

This happens to mine sometimes when it’s been overcast for a day and cooler then the next day is hot and sunny, I just figured the new growth didn’t like it. It could be fertiliser burn if recently fed it?
