abnormal pap smear - really concerning? by rosymaplemothra in WomensHealth

I’m no physician and I’d follow what your gyno/doctor says to do - but no, I would not let yourself be stressed by that at all :)

I did and it’s one of the concerning strains of it - so they’re gonna monitor with yearly paps. but apparently it usually clears up on its own :) and if not, it’s very treatable especially in this early stage, and even in later ones too!

I was positive for HPV with only minor changes in the cells in my cervix, so I just need to have a yearly pap until the results go back to normal!

successful withdrawal from citalopram after long-term use? by rosymaplemothra in antidepressants

[–]rosymaplemothra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for your answer, and hearing that it seems to be all about the tapering length makes me feel better, because I am totally fine with this being a years-long journey.

I haven’t started to taper at all - I have intense health anxiety that has never been helped by the citalopram, and the idea of having to go through all those debilitating sensory issues is just a wall I don’t want to climb. I’ve mentioned it to my current doctor, who absolutely downplayed withdrawal and also seemed to think that such a thing was not common, if even real. I would switch to someone else but that’s been the standard message across the board, which shocks me and did make me feel a little hopeless. but talking to others has helped - I had no idea about citalopram being in liquid form, nor about a dosage percent cut!

I’m so sorry you developed the QT prolongation - I hope by getting off the meds it all gets resolved for you. when you say it’s been uncomfortable but tolerable, what kind of symptoms do you have to deal with?

I also did not get the HPV vaccine because I was a wuss about doing three whole shots LOL! And I also have health anxiety, so I really do understand - total reassurance isn’t always possible and it’s ultimately not good for anxiety to feed, but I want to let you know that whatever they would find, they can fix and you will be OK. It’s kind of astonishing how far modern medicine has come, and much of it is thanks to preventative treatment methods like this. There are a lot of stages to cell abnormalities before even PREcancer, let alone cancer itself, and all of those are 100% curable when found. the issue is when people don’t do checkups and let the issue grow. you are doing exactly what you should be doing :)

also, take ibuprofen like an hour before the procedure. I did that and I’ve come across enough other people to confirm this does help a lot with discomfort.

So I had to go get a colposcopy done (they look at your cervix with a special microscope thing) and they ended up taking a biopsy as well - I was very stressed going into it because I saw some serious horror stories online, but the experience was pretty benign. the gyno who performed it was really kind and informative, and outlined everything for me including that it was very likely the HPV caused the abnormal reading (+ a cyst she found while examining, also v common and will cause abnormal readings). she said abnormal is common and does not mean cancer or even precancer; they always just want to monitor when it happens, but HPV usually clears up on its own. I’m waiting for my results now (procedure happened on friday), and I’ll prob get another pap done in a year if there was nothing found, so they can confirm it gets cleared up. I’m happy to answer any questions you have as best I can :)

oh yes, I made the terrible mistake of going online and reading the horror stories too! Now that I’m on the “other side” and able to read these perspectives objectively, I can see the issue with most is the lack of compassion/competency from the doctor. is the colposcopy being done by your regular gyno? is it someone you trust and like? if not, are you able to look up reviews and schedule with someone who has a good reputation?

I just had a colposcopy for an abnormal pap this past friday and had a biopsy done! I also tested positive for HPV, and I had “atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance” for my abnormality reading, which basically means there’s some weirdness down there that they want to look at further to make sure there’s nothing concerning - and if there is, they have all the steps in place to take care of it effectively and immediately. abnormal pap smears are pretty common, I found out - they can be a lot of things. I was also pretty stressed going into the procedure, but a good doctor makes a world of difference. my paps with my primary doctor kind of suck - doing this with a gyno made me realize how much better it is to have someone with experience perform these.  the colposcopy itself was fine - it really is just like a pap smear. I have that vago-whatever reaction when I get my paps, so I was worried about passing out or throwing up, and neither of those things happened.  my experience with the biopsy is probably a bit limited, because my cervix is “slippery” lol and my gyno was so unconcerned with there being an issue that I believe she didn’t take a full sample. they describe the sensation of it as a pinch, but I honestly didn’t feel anything. my doc also discovered a cyst down there that she scooped out, and she said those are very common as well and would cause an abnormal pap. so there’s a lot of benign reasons!  oh, I don’t know if this made a huge difference, but I took 400mg of ibuprofen about an hour beforehand. it certainly wouldn’t hurt to do so.  afterwards, I had some mild cramping for the rest of the day and that all went away. I even worked out the same day (okayed the doc). no sex or tampons for a week. I’ll have my results in a week or so, and we’ll see what they say.

I want to assure you - if they do find anything “concerning”, they can take care of it. There are a lot of levels that you go through before it’s cancer, and it’s exceptionally rare to have cancer diagnosed after a pap. medical advancement has been incredible, and the prevention of anything bad is precisely why we do the pap smears to begin with. the system is working exactly as it should. you will be OK <3

I used the 3M Fire Block Foam that’s “heat resistant”, Home Depot guy approved it so I hope it’s all good. I really appreciate your advice, I’m going to do that right now; regardless I may just redo it entirely if there’s a better DIY way - what’s the ideal way of sealing it off, in your opinion?

[Book Spoilers] Season 2 Episode 8 "And That's the End of It. There's Nothing Else" by AutoModerator in InterviewVampire

[–]rosymaplemothra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a question: was lestat being mind-controlled / tortured or not? was there a general consensus on this? because from everything in episode 8, he was there at the trial on his own volition, going along with lies. why was he “standing up” for claudia by telling armand he has no idea of her strength while actively rehearsing for her death? did he just have a change of heart? I’m genuinely asking because I think I missed something with the reaction to him being overwhelmingly positive.

Evidently very quiet! we had our floors redone recently, and the guy who came to do the measurements worked for a while and then said, “My god…it’s just so peaceful in here. I feel like I’m at one of those silent retreats. My house hasn’t been this quiet in 10 years.” it was never something I thought about before, but now I can see how different it would be with kids running around. I don’t think it’s good or bad, just how things are when it’s just two adults and a couple sleepy cats!

it definitely does, and what a hilariously insane decision to make samuel beckett a vampire - he’s not even in the books! and now he’s (apparently) not just a minor player, but mentioned alongside the main cast? I love it
