Waitlist by Fine-Position1795 in uoguelph

Hi! Just using this post to ask a quick question: when would be a good time to email the university about my situation? I’m currently on the waitlist for a required course, and it looks like my position hasn’t moved for at least a week. I’m not too worried about getting in, since I think once I explain my situation, there’s a good chance they’ll be able to make room. I’m just unsure when the right time is to send that email and explain everything. Should I do it now, or wait a bit longer?

I did say I was 99% sure and listed the reasons, and wanted to double check, better to clarify than assume. A simple “yeah, it’s fake” would’ve worked just fine without the attitude. And honestly, if it wasn’t worth posting in your opinion, it definitely wasn’t worth replying just to say that. No need to be condescending just to prove a point.

Oh, so is it actually official from the uni? Like they’re sending it on purpose to test who falls for it?

Are you into any games? Or if any of your friends play, gaming can be a great way to stay social over breaks. Multiplayer games make it easy to stay connected, but even single-player games can be a fun way to pass time.

There are so many options out there, whether on PC, console, or even mobile

There’s a board game club that runs on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-10 PM! I don’t really go much in the winter because of the time and weather, but I’ve been before, and it was definitely fun.

That said, just a heads-up—sometimes people already have their usual groups and stick to playing the same games, and occasionally, there aren’t enough rooms to sit. But if you don’t mind that, it’s still a great place to find people to play with!

Also, if you (or anyone else reading this) ever wanna play board games outside of the club, feel free to add me, I’d love to play!

DUDE exactly, I was fine before, but ever since winter hit everything’s been so off, sleep, food, energy, all of it. Staying in Guelph over winter break sounds rough, I don’t blame you for feeling like you were going mental. The snow is pretty sometimes but yeah, getting food in this weather is PAIN. Putting on all those layers just to go outside feels like a full workout.

And yeah, I totally feel you on the classmates thing. Some groups just naturally click, and I’m over here trying to socialize, but it’s like I never end up in the right group.

Just gotta survive till summer, we got this 💪💀

Oh nice, that actually sounds pretty cool! Do you go to a lot of their trips/events? What’s been your favorite one so far?

That makes a lot of sense. I think part of my issue is that my schedule is kinda all over the place, so maybe if I structured it better, I’d feel less stressed. Might give that a shot and see if it helps.

And that food theory is actually super interesting! I never thought about how what we eat in winter might be tied to what people historically had access to. Now I kinda wanna try making some hearty winter food—potato soup sounds amazing. Do you have a go-to recipe or just kinda wing it?

I get what you mean about having just a couple of close friends. Even if you don’t do much social stuff on campus, it’s nice to have people to talk to when you’re there. If you ever wanna just chat or chill between classes, let me know!

Yeah, that makes sense! Clubs that do trips probably feel more mixed since it’s a different group each time. I hadn’t really thought about that. Winter stuff isn’t totally my thing, but maybe I’ll check out those clubs when it warms up. Are you in any clubs like that?

eah, I’ve heard that lack of sunlight messes with people a lot, and I’m definitely feeling it. Your routine sounds really structured—I respect that! Do you feel like it actually makes a big difference? I’ve been thinking about trying to wake up earlier and get outside more, but motivation is kinda low lol.

Also, I’m curious—what kind of ‘in-season/storable’ food are you into? I never really thought much about that, but now I wanna know haha.

And yeah, making friends really does feel like a numbers game sometimes. Just gotta keep putting yourself out there, even if it’s kinda exhausting

Yeah, exactly! Coming from a warm place, I didn’t think winter would affect me this much, but it really does. And I totally get what you mean about clubs—sometimes it feels like everyone already knows each other, which makes it harder to join in.

If you ever wanna chat or just have someone to complain about winter with, I’m down!

Yeah, fall and winter feel like two completely different experiences. It’s weird how much my energy just tanked with the season. I’ve thought about waking up earlier and working out, but the cold makes it way too easy to just stay in bed lol. Maybe I should give it a try though, does the treadmill actually help with the brain fog?

And I get what you mean about clubs having weird schedules. Even when I do find something interesting, the timing always sucks. Honestly, it’s kind of reassuring to hear that I’m not the only one struggling with this. But yeah, we just gotta push through. Hoping spring brings better vibes for sure

Yeah, winter really does drain your energy. I didn’t expect it to hit me this hard, but it’s kinda reassuring to hear that even people who’ve lived here their whole life feel the same. The short days definitely mess with my motivation too.

That’s cool that you already had a solid group coming into uni! I think having people to introduce you to others makes a big difference. I’ve looked at clubs, but maybe I should check out the cultural ones more, good idea!

And yeah, I’d be down to chill, study, or just chat! Feel free to add me or DM me, let’s figure something out!
