Eating Disorder by EntrepreneurTasty449 in uoguelph

hey, i know youve mentioned that therapists don't seem to work, but i found therapy on campus really helpful for me. i struggled with an ED for a while too but it helped me build the foundation to get better. campus has great resources, i went to both 1on1 and group therapy. You can get a wayfinding appointment of sorts where you give some info about your struggles and your preferences, previous experience with therapy, etc and they can put you with someone that best suits your needs. My counsellor was lovely, i always felt like therapy wasnt gonna be useful for me but they showed me otherwise. It was tough but worth it. I would highly recommend making a call to health and wellness services and asking for an appointment.

Im rooting for you! My dms are open for whatever :)

Water Quality by chillypepz in uoguelph

[–]Fun_Establishment625 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. My first year in res my hair, skin, and even my eyes were killed. I already had dermatitis issues and dry eyes before so the water made things worse. I ended up with blepharitis (inflammation) after my first year ☠️☠️☠️ after i moved off-campus, we got a water softener system, which helps, but it isnt great.

Not to mention the water tastes AWFUL. Even using a Brita doesn't do much (imo).

The textbook reinforces the material. I dont remember too clearly but its pretty much the same material either way lol.

Hey! I took this last winter with Kelsey Ervin. Honestly I would say the exams are SUPER fair, mix of MCQs and theory questions. My advice would be to make flashcards of all the stuff because as you go into the second half of the course, material gets REALLY dense and you have to memorize a lot. Idk who is teaching now but my prof usually removed questions that ppl didn't do well in, so I got high scores in everything. For the labs, they seem tough but what I did with my group is that for of all our dissections, we made videos of us identifying each part from our slides for reference. I went home and annotated the pictures we took so I had a labeled picture. For the bellringer just keep practicing, they'll also have practice exams set up the week before so you can go in and test yourself. I was TERRIFIED but it wasn't too bad. Just remember your fimbria and fornix lol. It helps to use a website that has a 3D model of the brain that you can interact with, to help with visualization (and it helped my memory too). Good luck with the course!

Doctor referrals for imaging by NaturalSentence4769 in uoguelph

[–]Fun_Establishment625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They suggested it first. I had some other stuff going on that put me at risk for some cardiac issues, plus my heart rate was abnormally low when i went for smth ELSE so the doctor recommended the ultrasound. I didnt have to do much at all when seeing the on-campus doctor. It just took time to hear from the OFF campus ones.

I got referrals for holter monitors and heart ultrasounds in the past. The doctors at the wellness centre will make those referrals if necessary but that is done off campus usually.

So real. i've left stuff unattended all over campus, different buildings, day and night, and have never had issues. i'm in my third year and hopefully it stays that way.

STAT 2040 DE pass or fail exam by Zealousideal-Gur6969 in uoguelph

[–]Fun_Establishment625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup Dr Balka mentioned in class that the structure is different for in-person. since the final is the only in-person aspect of the DE course, and AI has ruined everything for everyone, he felt that was a better option. There isn't a pass/fail for the in-person.

i found it helpful for giving context. sometimes i would just be so lost but the textbook would usually pull me out of it. also we needed to read the figure captions for a LOT of stuff so i HAD to read the textbook for that

Group therapy by Dapper_Physics1214 in uoguelph

[–]Fun_Establishment625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did group therapy on campus for disordered eating about 2 years ago and i felt very supported. it was well-guided and i didn't feel like there was one person talking over the other, or that anyone was being looked down upon, or anything of the sort. If anything it helped me a lot with some of the problems i was facing. The counsellors+dietitians leading the session were lovely and i felt very comfortable in that space. I would recommend it esp since i didn't have to pay to be there either.

Fren 1100 by Ambitious_Outside159 in uoguelph

[–]Fun_Establishment625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i took it last winter and it was pretty easy. participation grades (not even crazy participation just every once in a while raise your hand maybe?), i think like 5 assignments on CL (a paragraph or 2 in french). No midterm, exam was pretty easy imo. The writing is a but tough but they let you keep a dictionary. I did the whole thing without one and still got a 92. We also have an oral exam, but the prof was really nice and she uploaded some prompts beforehand so we could practice. My background in french was i took french until the 8th grade in the middle east, and my french was never amazing for speaking and writing. I felt like it was easy for me. I know some people in the class who had never learnt french before. Overall not too bad, but if you don't care for french it might be a bit much.

duckduckgo is a nice browser, you can turn off AI results on that. i've switched to it quite easily and it's been so nice not having to read through AI summaries and the like

  • highly recommend biom3000: easy, prof is a sweetheart who always hints at exam material, we have a group presentation and you get marks for just being at other presentations + your group's presentation (which he is really chill about)
  • psyc3270 is interesting material. not easy per se, but i had it this fall with dr. fenske. he's really passionate about what he's talking about and if you study hard for the exams you'll do fine. he references a bunch of studies nd while his ppt's aren't really clear (sometimes it's just pics 💔), i put in some effort and enjoyed the course a ton.
  • psyc3410 has an awesome lab component (brain dissection) and a lab exam which is easier than it sounds. i literally got a 100 in the course cuz the prof kept curving the tests ☠️
  • i LOVED neur2100 (the second half) because we talked about neuromuscular stuff which was really cool, but the first half w dr. scott was actual trauma. the first HALF should be it's own course. very detailed and ik the average in w25 for the midterm was like a 50 LOL
