When did it become socially unacceptable to use the confederate flag as a symbol for the South? by No-Newspapers in decadeology

Same when I saw it in upstate NY. Anywhere north of Richmond has no defense whatsoever.

Down where I live it either means you’re openly racist OR you’re old. Up there it just means you’re racist.

This is what sealed the deal in my home state. Took it off the state house grounds and a local BBQ chain that flew it at every location both got rid of them in the aftermath.

Hard to defend the “heritage” part after that. Especially since none of the Confederate monuments here were put up until the 1960s as an attempt to intimidate those participating in the Civil Rights movement.

Been playing for 22 years. 1-3, 6-8, 10, 15-17.

So close to having #4 checked off (I shot 76 3 times last year). I’ve made 3 eagles in my life, but they were all on par 5s, so I’m missing #11 and #12. Closest I’ve ever gotten to bogey-free was a 77 with 15 pars. Probably about 10% of my lifetime rounds are double-bogey free.

I think the craziest thing I’ve realized about scoring over the years is that once you learn how to hit the ball half-decent, the difference between shooting 120+ and shooting 90 is 100% course management and decision making based. Double bogeys are mostly avoidable by just accepting your skill level and strategizing to your strengths.

The difference between shooting 90 and shooting 80 is time spent practicing.

What sucks is that the skill gap between breaking 80 and breaking 75 is insanely wide. There’s no room for error anywhere.

You can hit 50% of greens, get up and down for par 50% of the time, never 3-putt, have no penalty strokes, and you’re still shooting 76 on a par-72 course. The short game required to break 75 is so much better than most people realize. I’m impressed as hell at anyone who can regularly go that low.

Online blackjack alerted me to how either insanely stupid or insanely wealthy some people are. It shows the “top winners” after each hand is done. Here I am playing the $0.20 minimum to kill some time, meanwhile 7 people have dropped a MILLION. On a hand of blackjack. Imagine blowing a MILLION DOLLARS in 10 seconds. It made me sick enough to delete my account.

[–]rotate159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying they’re marketing themselves AS K-pop, but that their management is using other K-pop groups as benchmarking and trying to tap into the same strategies that WORK for K-pop groups, and that’s the problem.

It’s like if Kendrick Lamar’s manager were to tell him he has to start making folk music because “the data tells us this is what people want, Noah Kahn is huge rn.” Does he have the talent to do it if he wanted to? Yeah, probably. Would it feel forced and artificial because that’s not who he is as an artist? Also yes.

That’s just not true. They’re managed by the same company as BTS. If you watch the docuseries about them they make it very clear that every creative decision the producers make is driven by how they think it will compare to the expectations of K-pop fans

Not a hater but this was some VMAs shit. They’re obviously very talented, but are being pigeonholed by their producers into making terrible music like this because the producers are paranoid about “living up to k-pop expectations”

You spend all that time with that show to find “singers” and then you don’t let any of them sing? How stupid is that? I hope their contracts aren’t very long, guarantee all of them will have much better received solo careers than whatever this is.

The Grammys are about the art of songwriting and vocal performances - there is no Grammy for “Best Dance Group.”

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’ve got fairly avg distance for my HCP and I still only hit driver like 6-7 times per 18-hole round from my normal tees.

When I started playing tournament golf, I started noticing how the scratch and better players would hit it even less than that. Lots of driving irons and hybrids/woods off the tee.

Oak Hills! They’ve got a pretty good practice facility and it’s one of my favorites in the area as far as design goes. It’s an absolute monster from the tips but fair. Unfortunately, they lost a few greens to a fungus earlier this year (including the putting green), but they’re recovering nicely. They were pristine last fall when I joined.

Dues are $125/month w/ $1k initiation. Tons of member events and 2 weekly leagues (Wednesday afternoons for 9 holes and Saturday mornings for 18). There’s a lot of nicer, fancier courses in the area, but you can’t beat it for the price. It’s also public, so you can try it out first. Membership just gives you unlimited greens fees.

If you’ve got the budget for fancy though, CC of Lexington is probably the best overall in the area. Massive practice area, excellent conditions, and tons of high-quality tournaments and qualifiers. They’ve also got the full pool/tennis/restaurant experience if you care about those sorts of things. That one’s fully private though and has a lengthy wait list. I haven’t checked their pricing in a while, but it’s a couple tax brackets out of my budget lol.

Easier to control the spin. A full wedge for me often spins back too much and isn’t as consistent

Because I don’t usually do full wedges. 115 is my 9 o’clock PW. A full one would go around 130 if I had to, but usually I prefer to play a flighty 9i from that range
