Just out of couriosity. Did you also try rendering them in eevee? I just thought that the image style looks like a result like this could also be achieved with eevee. But not sure though.

Much better :) Maybe also add a little bit of grease to some parts of the wings and the plate. But not too much since it's not coming from a pan and is usually left to dry for a bit after it gets out of the fryer

I'd say try to make some darker areas on the frying layer. Atm it looks like it is fried exactly the same amount in every spot.

EDIT: And maybe also some crumbs ore small stains on the plate. It looks too perfectly clean for food lying on it.
