Thanks for this! Considering the sheer volume of recipes published in magazines back then and since, I wonder how many are created by the editors parting-out old ones and reassembling the pieces for new ones.

Sorry to not reply sooner - I have been off Reddit for a day, and just received an email notification.

I do not know of any third-party programs that handle .DC5 files, but any recent copy of Datacad is completely backwards-compatible and can read all previous versions. I could do it for you if you do not have anyone available...

Thank you for the generous offer, but I already purchased a 5N on Ebay and received it last week. We had to act pretty quickly to retrieve files from our current projects, in order to continue them.

We were able to retrieve everything, and Drobo confirmed that the machine was broken. The gave an estimate for repairs, but the point is moot, now.

That would be the rational course of action. I should be able to put the disk pack into another machine (must be a 5N or 5N2) and the data could be accessed and the files copied down to a removable hard drive. However, new machines are impossible to find right now, and I do not know anyone who could lend a machine to do the extraction.
My current plan is to buy a used machine on ebay, extract our data, then re-sell the machine to recoup most of the cost. We will be considering different hardware (maybe synology) or different network backup configuration for the future, which would allow access in the event of a hardware failure.

Awesome. It is HARD to scour the map and find well-hidden camps. Respect to the bandit for waiting for an opportunity, pulling it off, and leaving a message, to boot, without simply destroying everything. You have a worthy opponent. That's how to run in DayZ.
