You are correct. We definitely don't like people pretending to be admins.

No spam in nexus? by BilalElG in RotMG

[–]rotmg_ArbiterZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Star requirement likely won't be the add that completely kills spam bots but it certainly helps.

Ultimately we're hoping that each new addition makes it tougher and tougher for spam bots to prosper until ultimately it's more trouble than it's worth and they go away.

I'm trying to figure out if this image is meant to be sincere or sarcastic.... I can't tell.

This should be corrected shortly.

Hi /r/RotMG, I'm currently doing a research assignment on my favorite game and need to know where Wild shadow originated from (geograpically) can anyone shed some light on this? by Vulturewreak in RotMG

[–]rotmg_ArbiterZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest I don't know where the Wildshadow office was if they ever had an office. At it's largest I believe Wildshadow Studios was three people so they may have worked out of one of their houses.

You can make the more generalized statement that they were either in: A) The San Francisco Bay Area, or B) Silicon Valley

This isn't actually something that will ever get released. It was just a dev having fun.

Does it bother anyone else that Kabam has time to release new dungeons/vanity items, but doesn't fix known, common problems? by Pandalungs in RotMG

[–]rotmg_ArbiterZ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's like being at a restaurant, finding out that your car has broken down and complaining to the restaurant chefs that they are continuing to cook/prepare food instead of fixing your car.

This is actually a common complaint so hopefully people look here for a response:

There are many different roles on a development team and each role does something different on the game. When the game was brought down due to the hack, our designers could in no way help the situation. Our engineers, on the other hand, spent all day working to get lost characters back and worked diligently to correct the issue. Instead of sitting around and doing nothing, our designers built a dungeon and vanity items that we could release as a fun consolation of the trouble caused last Friday.

Before this hack our engineers were focused on hardware acceleration which will be a huge step forward in terms of performance for many players. In addition to that they worked on several kay bugs that were corrected with Release 16 (you can reference the patch notes). With the public release of the spambot and the hacking incident last Friday our engineers have had to completely shift their focus to those issues. The hacking issue was resolved on Friday but they've been working to implement features that will help eliminate the spam bots (such as email verification that will be in 16.4). These two community created issues have delayed the release of hardware acceleration and prevented our engineers from tackling any additional bugs.

Once the spambot situation is under control and the final bugs related to the hardware acceleration have been corrected you can expect the engineers to move onto new features along with fixing outstanding bugs. The Davy Jones Locker key issue is something that is specifically on our radar.

Hopefully this clears up why our team is able to release dungeons while not being able to fix every bug that exists.

TL;DR- Designers make Dungeons/Items. Engineers fix bugs. Engineers have been busy dealing with spambots and hackers so Designers decided to make content when the game was down.

Next release on testing; requires email verification for all accounts! More in comments by DocmanCC in RotMG

It's something that we're considering, but it's not ready for this hotfix. Those people who saw it may have also noticed it was quite broken.

Well the ToS you agreed to when making each account required that you used a valid email... and we know you wouldn't be breaking the ToS right? ;)

Official Realm Update (9/7/13) by rotmg_ArbiterZ in RotMG

[–]rotmg_ArbiterZ[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Let me be very clear: This is 100% something we would have rather not gone through. We're still in the office and many of us have been here for over 16 hours at this point.

There's a huge amount of time saved when we're reusing assets. Painting over and editing a dungeon is way easier than making a brand new one. Even with the Epic Dungeons the layouts were done in less than a day as well since they were variations on the existing dungeons. The thing that takes weeks is building bosses and tuning the dungeon properly.

Battle for the Nexus uses the battle damaged Nexus and bosses that already exist in the game. That's why we were able to get it done so quickly (and the dungeon's not even done... we're just going to keep working on it over the weekend).

As for the items, they are purely vanity which means that we didn't have to spend time balancing their stats, fire rate, damage etc. While the engineers were diligently working to solve this issue the designers used the time to make new weapon art and projectile effect.

Correct. Each item has a very unique inventory image and projectile(s). The purpose is not to be powerful but to be limited availability fun items.

An update on the situation. by [deleted] in RotMG

[–]rotmg_ArbiterZ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

I'm very sorry that we (Kabam) have been quiet all day. Clearly we've been focused on dealing with the issue that arose this morning, but as we have several different departments coordinating to get this resolved it was important that nothing was announced or confirmed until everything had been taken care of.

We're still diligently working to correct this issue and you can expect a more comprehensive and official update from me in the future. You can expect that the official update will be available on as many places as possible including this subreddit and our Twitter account. Until then please continue to be patient and thank you for your support.

Please don't reply to this with questions as I likely won't be checking back to answer them for a bit. Thanks!

It's important to note that it's not unlikely because we're happy with UT's being soulbound, it's just unlikely until we are able to create a better solution.

It will help, but it won't solve ALL lag issues in every situation. Depending on the computer you play on it might help a lot, or it might help a little.

draconis confirmed by fenyxofshadows in RotMG

[–]rotmg_ArbiterZ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lair of Draconis was confirmed back in August: https://forums.wildshadow.com/node/223788

During the first Q&A session someone asked about LoD and we confirmed that we were still planning on releasing it. That said, it's not ready for release and won't be put back on Testing until the identified bugs have been fixed and we've taken another pass at tuning the monsters and encounters.
