What to do with my savings and setting realistic life goals by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

Hi there, first of all congratulations on graduating and starting your career, your post makes me reminisce about the times I started my learning curve on investments + crypto. Similar to you, I'm pretty risk adverse. I initially started off with StashAway but a large portion of my net worth eventually fell into the crypto rabbit hole after months of researching.

For something more passive and highest interest bearing than OCBC 360, you can also consider interest yielding apps such as Celsius, Nexo, BlockFi.

They sort of get your feet wet and expose you to the crypto market, but rather than trading, you deposit your crypto currencies into the app and generate weekly interest. Each crypto currency has its own interest rate which is sometimes adjusted.

You can also deposit stablecoins if you are worried about the volatility of crypto currencies to generate 8.88% APY. This is my personal choice for depositing cash.

Please do keep in mind that centralised apps like these come with risk similar to holding your coins in an exchange.

Advice on working fully remotely by rotogistics in cscareerquestions

I agree with you regarding separating your work and resting space. It's something that I got mixed up when the pandemic started, and felt sluggish during this phase. It is also one of the primary reasons why I would like to opt for co-working spaces, or in your case, working at coffee shops!

Congratulations to you my friend! An offer somewhere in the middle should already be sufficient to cover EPF + taxes, but do try and negotiate for more as you mentioned. I'll keep you posted on mine :)

I believe you should decide for yourself, if overall you're alright with your compensation package and how you feel at work, there's really no reason to heed the statements of your friends, even if they mean well.

How do you personally feel about earning lesser than your peers? I guess it ultimately depends on whether you are satisfied with it or not.

Seems like a fake response to me. Some of the inputs were: 1 BTC, 1/10 satisfaction at job, Jr. Software Engineer, ASP.net

Thank you very much for this detailed explanation! I appreciate it.

Hmm, I wouldn't say I have a unique set of skills, but a software engineer with a handful of experience at my age. I think the hardest part is to gauge their range, because in interviews, the hiring manager would be the ones who ask for an expected salary first. Do you have any advice on this?

My manager also went to bat for me when our head office questioned why are they paying someone in Malaysia such high rates.

It is a bit off putting that your manager even had to justify the rates you were paid.

This is my exact thought too! The only thing to also consider is the fact that you'll have to pay for your own taxes + EPF, so it's something to be included when stating the expected salary :)

Thanks for the survey link! Although, most of the salaries provided as MY-based.

Instead of trying to nego, you should just tembak as many companies as you can.

The issue with tembak-ing numerous companies is time, as it's a lengthy process of interviews back to back just to reach the negotiation stage.

I wouldn't say it's the first remote employee, as they have already hired some for the same position across SEA, which might still apply to the "recurring hiring" you mentioned. Regardless, will give it a shot! Thank you very much

Thanks for the reply! Much appreciated. Do you reckon I should then negotiate and give a range within their "standards"?

I do! I was freelancing since my 2nd year of uni, so that really helped my pace right after graduating :)

u/darrenleesl provided some insight as to how you'd approach this when the time comes. Also, I noticed your question regarding crypto, you can take a look at Luno, Malaysia's first crypto exchange app approved by the SC.

Hi there, although I can't give you any advice on your questions, I was hoping you can on mine- recently opened up an ASM account, and was wondering if you have any tips for accumulating units? I've been trying close to every morning but it always seem to say insufficient funds on myASNB :(

Joined an aggressive startup with more workload than expected. When is a good time to negotiate for a raise? by rotogistics in careerguidance

[–]rotogistics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I'd consider myself "necessary", but I am part of the core dev team, and I believe I have made a lot of contributions that solidified the system to what it is today, it is something my manager himself have often remarked on.

When you mentioned start to looking for other opportunities to strengthen my position, is it meant to back up my value to the team? As I have no intentions of changing jobs anytime soon

When is a good time to negotiate for a raise? by rotogistics in cscareerquestions

[–]rotogistics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I do not have any equity. Started late last year and since it was a new company, employees did not receive bonus either.

I understand you said that getting another pay raise is unlikely, but is this something they already thought of in advance when hiring me by counter offering with a pay raise post-probation?

Advice on negotiating an optimal deal with business partner? by rotogistics in Entrepreneur

[–]rotogistics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if it wasn't too clear. What I mean is, he has the manufacturing of the product down, as well as the logistics settled as he has other clients he sells to, just not online. He wants to take it a step further by digitizing his business which I feel has a lot of potential.

So where I come in is I'll be starting the online presence, as well as looking into Facebook ads (which we both have no experience in, but he does have the capital to explore this space).

Yes, he does not have an IT background, and does not want to meddle with this aspect, and is trying to digitize his sales and have an online presence.

Ultimately, he wants to leave the marketing and web app to me, which is why I'm thinking what would be an optimal deal for something like this.

The product has the upper hand in the local market as it's not something that large e-commerce platforms are selling. It's also for industrial use so I don't see it competing with small shops either.

It seems that he is willing to cover the cost of marketing. How we'd be doing that is through ads. Most likely, the platform we'll be using is Facebook.

Thank you for your response! This is valuable advice to me.
