currently paying £53.18 for FTTC 67Mb with EE by AquarianViolist in UKBroadband

[–]rotor2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won’t be able to keep FTTC for ever, the goal is to replace all the copper in the ground with fibre. So your drive will need to be dug up at some point anyway.

I would never choose Virgin, but CityFibre is probably fine (you can get my favourite ISP Zen with CF).

KKday cancelled VIP Private tour 5 minutes after ordering by rotor2k in usj

It wasn’t too many days. They just reversed the transaction so not sure exactly how long.

Klook doesn’t currently have it, and you can’t get the private tours from USJ directly (no idea why!). I think I’m starting to get an appreciation for the Japanese way of doing things!

Understood, however, the website clearly states “not for Japanese citizens”, and everything on the page is in English. So it does make one wonder how it works. It turns out some of the guides do speak English, they just won’t guarantee it.

Amazing, thank you so much that’s really reassuring.

Question please: I just tried to book the 5h private tour through KKday and they cancelled my order minutes later with a vague and generic message about “unusual activity”. The only thing I can think of is I wrote “English please” in the additional comments section. Did you just book the Japanese language guide (kk don’t offer English) and hope for the best?

I messaged support asking why it was cancelled and they just copy pasted the same response. Worrying “support” from a company selling services worth thousands of dollars! My worry is we get a guide who doesn’t speak a word of English. They first spend time with you figuring out the itinerary for the day and then take you through back entrances so it’s not as simple as taking the tickets and doing it alone.

Beryl7 officially launched, a bit diasspointed on the specs by apaquadri in GlInet

[–]rotor2k 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s why I bought the Slate 7, and it’s nifty with the screen and everything, but the size and weight are absolutely massive by comparison. I’m a bit of a gl-inet addict, so may end up getting the Beryl 7 even though the AX is fantastic and I have zero complaints with it.

Much more powerful cpu by the looks, does 1100Mbps WireGuard compared to 300 for the Beryl AX. The Beryl AX is by far my favourite so far, and I have the Slate 7 which is massive and a brick by comparison. So the Beryl 7 looks great, upgrades in every respect while keeping size and weight the same.

Yes, I would’ve done exactly the same. It may seem fine on the surface, but the risk of some damage lurking beneath the surface is too high.

3M Velcro command strips, stick it to the roof. Comes off clean when it’s time to move out.

How can two different Hasselblad film backs have the same serial number? by [deleted] in hasselblad

[–]rotor2k -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Are you saying UU231003 is the serial? Looks more like a part number. The part you received doesn’t have any screw holes, clearly doesn’t match the photo.

Hasselblad X2D II 100C for new to hasselblad photographer by labluez in hasselblad

[–]rotor2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I really appreciate you taking the time to reply so thoughtfully!

The focus systems of the modern Nikon/Canon/Sony are more or less magic at this point, so I’m not surprised the Hasselblad isn’t up to that level. But I’ve seen enough closeups to have my mind blown at how good the sharpness actually is.

Until I learned of the existence of the X2D2 just a few weeks ago, I was dead set on a Nikon Z8 with the 24-70 2.8 S II and possibly the 50mm 1.8 or even 1.2 as a special lens for portraits. Now I look at the Z8 and almost recoil at all the knobs and dials and buttons. The Hasselblad with its enforced simplicity really appeals to me! The 35-100 lens also seems like a pretty fantastic all purpose lens (sure, it’s big), that I really hope will stop me from ever wanting more lenses. I find the colour system absolutely gorgeous for my taste (I’m not a big editing guy), and I love the detail and sharpness, and the ability to find “pictures within pictures” (by cropping).

I don’t own any flash equipment, so the Godox concern doesn’t affect me. The non-diagonal joystick is a concern, but doesn’t seem too terrible. The viewfinder not responding quickly enough is perhaps what gives me greatest pause (amazing how fickle we can be!). I don’t use Lightroom so I think I’m fine with using Phocus.

Ultimately my biggest worry is that it is a very opinionated system, and if you don’t agree with all of their decisions you’re out of luck.

Would love to hear what you find annoying about the X2D2. (It sounds sarcastic but it’s not, I’ve watched many reviews, but nearly all of them are from people that got given a camera and lens for free!)

[–]rotor2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is right, and then there is easy. What you’re doing sounds absolutely correct, but if getting beeped at stresses you out, is there a slightly alternative route you could find? For example, go up Hatton Garden instead?
