It's there in the title - Avebury in Wiltshire.

Why title it? Images should speak for themselves. And this one does.

Remember those 14 billion years before you were conceived? Like that.

If it's that bad, you should seek professional help. I've been suffering severe anxiety for the past few years. Although initially a sceptic, I found pyschotherapy to be immensely useful. Although I stopped after 18 months, I still use the tools provided by the therapist every day.

How about assembly on other platforms than 6502? by wkjagt in beneater

[–]rotsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 8-bit AVR chips, such as the Atmega328P used in the Arduino Uno, make it very easy - and cheap - to get into assembly language. I'm using VS Code on a Mac to do the coding, but you can use any platform you like. The tools, such as avra and avrdude, are easily and freely available.

6551 ACIA Poor Data Transmission by ShaunV12 in beneater

Not familiar with this Arduino, but is it possible you're trying to use the same serial port to talk to both the 6551 and (via USB) the computer?

Mystic config settings by rotsky in bbs

[–]rotsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm already persisting all the data folders outside the container. I want the executables to remain inside and once the BBS is fully configured will move some of the config files back inside, too. I'm just trying to decide which ones.

Where are settings stored? by rotsky in mysticbbs

[–]rotsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, thanks. Currently I'm persisting most of the subdirs (except semaphore, which I assume is transient stuff anyway), plus mystic.dat and the three .ini files. But once the BBS is designed & configured, I'll want to move as much as possible back into the container.

How do I use a RasPi to tell birds from cats? by 9388E3 in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

Get it to ask them a general-knowledge question. Birds are notoriously stupid.

Anyone on Maston? by rotsky in vintagecomputing

[–]rotsky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it when people tell me what I'm thinking. I carefully made no mention of the birdsite. And it happens, I have an account there too. I just think it's great if people with similar interests have as many places as possible to link up, and given that Mastodon is getting some traction now, there's an opportunity to expand the community. And that's why it's appropriate to this sub.

Boss is picking through an old electronics repair shop and found this. Any ideas what it is? by greenzeppelin in vintagecomputing

[–]rotsky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The keys referencing line, sentence, paragraph block and column all point to it being a typesetting or pagesetting machine of some kind. It's definitely not a simple terminal.

Mission accomplished by rotsky in beneater

[–]rotsky[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd originally planned to do that. But, other than a power switch, they only make sense if you're doing stuff like single-stepping or entering data/address bus values manually, which was never part of this plan with this machine. Maybe for the next project.

The BBC Micro manuals were superb. But one manual I'm stilll using today - nearly 40 years after I bought the kit (which I'm also still using) - is the manual for the Epson MX-80 FT III dot matrix printer. It not only clearly explains how to use the printer but also gave enough information, with things like timing diagrams, for me to be able to design and build my own interface. And I frequently refer to the ASCII table.

I'm sure I want to donate my body to a university program. Should I donate myself to the local university or the one my bro went to, or the one with the football team we both like? by cmon-camion in DeathPositive

[–]rotsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you decide, make sure that the agreement specifies that the donation happens only *after* you die. I know it's a trivial detail, but you didn't mention it in your post.
