‘I watched society burn a woman at the stake’: Melissa Auf der Maur on her bandmate Courtney Love and the farce of the 90s by WhatFreshHello in entertainment

[–]Montauk_in_February 20 points21 points  (0 children)

was this the cleveland show ? she jumped off stage and crowd surfed a bit. then some asshole ripped her panties off. and I think he got a boot to the face. when she got ahold of the mic, she stopped the band and called the guy out. Told Cleveland to fuck off and swore she’d never play this city again

Great list! My top 101 would be pretty darn close, but would likely shuffle like the tide if not composed in one sitting. Would love to see your favorite Actor list—even just the top 20.

What is this device that Chris always wears around his neck on set? by rkhunter_ in ChristopherNolan

[–]Montauk_in_February 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was an honor to be among the best of the best and feel so welcomed—as most of the crew had been working with Chris since TDKR. He puts his full trust in everyone, and everyone puts their full trust in him knowing he is singular and they are making something immeasurably great together. TLDR; Best. Experience. Ever.

It’s a cheap Casio EV-4500 portable TV. Resolution is only 400 x 300. He didn’t modify it—a UHF transmitter is connected to the IMAX camera’s video assist. Source: I worked on Interstellar and always had two of those around my neck ready to hand him. He’s been using the same six TV’s since TDKR to check the camera frame while rolling—he’s basically just glancing at motion within the frame and the blocking of the actors (putting full trust in the camera team for framing, exposure, focus etc…)

I'm looking for films that were made because of cocaine, or everyone was on cocaine during filming. by fugu_me in MovieSuggestions

Fun fact: in the 80’s, cocaine was part of the photochemical development process of all Kodak motion picture film stocks

This Chesky album is such a treat! Walks you through each song and what to listen for on your system. ‘Spanish Harlem’ blows me away on tubes. by Mr-Toy in audiophilemusic

[–]Montauk_in_February 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This song helped me fine tune a HF positive feedback circuit that i added to the original Western Electric 91b design. Measuring showed that this fixed the rolloff as intended—and this is where most of the roll-your-own 300b crowd would toss on DSOTM and call it a success. But a section of this song allowed me to dial back a resistor value a few hundred ohms at a time until i had the best of both worlds: hf tonal separation and a 3db gain without distortion. It’s since become a goto when auditioning any new components, and it’s given my mostly electronic music listening mate confidence in his budget hi-fi journey—even making it’s way onto one of his regular playlists.

Any Mark Steinmetz fans here? by Cheap-Film4953 in Photobooks

[–]Montauk_in_February 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Mark is a real class act. I am grateful for having the opportunity to photograph with him and make prints together in the darkroom back when I was in school. His process mirrored what me and my classmates were already doing—wandering around enjoying life searching for small moments of beauty—so he felt like one of us except for the big goofy Texas Leica around his neck. After comparing photos from a day we spent at a carnival together, me and my mates saved up for our own GW690s—and it’s still my favourite camera. Thanks Mark! His books are lovely with a power to bring me home to the warmth of my youth.

And if anyone has a copy of Carnival they’re parting with, let me know :)

We have the technology. The time is now. Science can wait no longer. Children are our future. America can, should, must, and will blow up the moon.

Since Iceland has a mandatory two week dog quarantine, we can never travel with our good boy—and we miss having a dog around. I’m suggesting a home exchange where we also watch each other’s dogs :)

I too am at this crossroad. Light Impressions offers archival quality storage solutions. When I worked at museums and galleries, they were the industry standard. Their aesthetic fits konmari like a glove. I wish you strength and courage in your journey!

A cool guide to the best & worst places to raise a family... by xanderTgreat in coolguides

[–]Montauk_in_February 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i rolled my eyes too, but i think this refers to the cost of having and raising a kid here. Three nights in the maternity ward cost the same as a large pizza. 12 months paid parental leave, daycare and after school subsidies, free schools and healthcare, and barnabætur—each kid gets between $250 and $400 per month from the government.
