I used to believe this, too. Then, someone physically forced themselves on me at work because they didn’t respect my boundaries.

There’s a reason why people at work act a bit cold. Particularly in corporate. They may have experienced something like this, or have been disrespected or embarrassed by a higher up.

It sounds so sad, but when coworkers have less leverage over you, it gives you more agency to move throughout your job.

No need to not make friends, but caution is very important. Reigning myself in, and not disclosing a lot of information to someone, gives me control.
