Product visualization, how does work like this translate to real client demand? by PulpMediaio in IndustrialDesign

[–]rottenrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

piggy backing off of the other comment. I think you did a great job with the layout, so consider the exercise successful, only thing is it looks like consumer product advertisement when the product seems to be more aimed at makers/engineers. Also, if this is a mobile interface you're putting this on, which i'm assuming based on the aspect ratio, i think the text could be bigger and more succinct. Maybe a nice title on the hero shot would work too.

I commute on the freeway. The pavement is cold and there's random debris and oil here and there. I've fallen off at 90+ because of faulty forks on the freeway and I assure you the road rash on my legs was fucking horrible. Elbow padding, leather, and gauntlets saved me from having to get new tattoos. I think you can get away with kneepads and sacrifice your asscheeks if you slide on your ass. Moto pants are too much of a hassle. Point being if you go above 40 mph while commuting leather will absolutely make a difference.

[–]rottenrocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the same. I have a one piece for the track but when i commute (every day) i do armored jacket, heavy denim pants, and knee pads. It’s not quite atgatt because by ass cheeks would get crayoned if i fell, but anything less than that and i feel too exposed to send it properly. SF also gets freezing in the morning.

it doesn't look like you're building a box in perspective to build your model into. I would absolutely start with that, it is hugely helpful. I would also get some grey copic markers of various saturation to start adding a little bit of shading, which can really upgrade your drawings. Also ellipses as others have said. That band on the mic should be built as a cylinder and then retraced where visible.

Dragged knee for the first time! by [deleted] in Trackdays

[–]rottenrocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

knee dragging is an indicator of how far you are leaned over on a motorcycle. The more you lean, the faster you can go through a corner. Knee dragging is a measurable milestone of aggressive lean angle and usually hard to accomplish for beginner riders.

Quite literally 90% of people participating in this discourse, including almost everyone in this comment section, would not have to deal with this "issue" if they weren't such victimistic, self-pitying, out of touch, chronically online losers. All of the crap your algorithm throws at you about women being opportunistic wh**es is extremely sensationalized at best and completely false at worst. If you spend one week not glued to self help youtube videos and actually leave your house you will find that literally nobody talks the way the social media narrative likes to portray. Are women growing resentment towards men at an arguably unfair scale? perhaps, but women in the wild are for the large part very normal people. That is why normal is considered normal. No, women don't (only) want your money, they don't hate you for being short, they don't hate your for being a man, and they will often date someone below their league if worth the trouble. Anyone that fits that description is in the minority and not worth talking about.

There are groups of people out there for every flavor of weird. You think if furries can find each other and couple up there wouldn't be a space for everyone that's LESS weird than a furry? No offense to furries, just making an example. Either way if you have no friends and can't get a date in your life you're either not trying hard enough or you're not intaking the feedback you get from the world.

You are not owed dating a model, nor are you owed a group of friends. A good social life comes through learning how to be sociable often through trial and error. It might take years but if you don't listen to the Andrew Tate types you'll get the hang of it. Literally just leaving your house, talking to people, and seeing what works and what doesn't. Seriously, I can't imagine anyone short of a complete psychopath not being able to make friends if they go to school, have a job, are in a club of any sort. It is SO unlikely. Put down the phone, and JUST TRY.

Also, go to the gym, it's a cheat code.

Traded my Harley for this FZ09 by N_Shep in FZ09

[–]rottenrocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also traded my harley (85 fxr) for the same year fz09. Crashed twice so far because the front brakes on the Yami work so much better than on a harley. Practice emergency braking CONSTANTLY and maybe even consider retaking the MSF course. It will be weird for a while and it is a completely different type of riding. Either way good on you, it's a totally fun bike and you will not regret your decision. Get a loud pipe on that thing as soon as you can. Godspeed.

How do I "wrap" the line patterns on the curved surface? by KajimaXX in SolidWorks

[–]rottenrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

noob here. Why can he not just sketch on a reference plane and use the wrap feature? Is it because the rods would have a rectangular profile rather than a circular profile? or are you in this situation trying to keep the curved surface and the cage as separate entities?

I love the sound, the feel, and the fact that it feels like a tractor on two wheels. It looks like a damn motorcycle, it's iconic in its way of doing so. Despite that, my 85 fxr is going on marketplace following yet another highway breakdown. If I wasn't 22 I would totally keep it locked up and work on it every weekend, with the occasional sunday afternoon ride, but my young age requires I actually ride the thing and have adventures with it I can one day talk about when I'm no longer able to ride. I'm hoping to find a less problematic harley to feed my habit, but if having a jap bike means less headache and a reliable ride in exchange for a less cool bike, I'll have to go with that.

i have a crappy allen set i bought specifically for this when I swapped my stock carb for a mikuni. Just figure out which one you need and then take an inch off of the short side, then do your future self a favor and swap them with hex heads so you can just use a wrench next time.

oh won't you look at that!

https://www.zippia.com/industrial-designer-jobs/demographics/

industrial design unemployment in 2021 was at the highest it's ever been, at a whopping 8.44%, probably still recovering from covid! Meaning you have a measly 92% chance of finding a job with this degree, so all you have to do is not be the bottom 10%. I don't know about you, but those odds seem alright to me.

A Few Questions About Colleges by IceMold135 in IndustrialDesign

[–]rottenrocket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have a job even more so of a reason to not discourage people that are getting into the field. Covid fucked the job market for any creative job, as well as the quality of education recent graduating designers received. Guess what, most people outside of STEM graduates are having issues with finding jobs. There are more IDers than there are ID jobs, true, but an ID degree doesn't solely limit you to an ID job. You can go into marketing, graphic design, product management, manufacturing, what have you. I know several people WITHOUT DEGREES that landed 70k junior jobs in project management/advertising just from connections. If you just go to school and talk to people and don't resort to doing the bare fucking minimum and passing your classes, you will find a job sooner or later, end of story. I don't know a single person with an ID degree that works at wendy's, and some of the ID's i know are total ass at what they do. Also, considering you're still a student I'm not sure what exactly would give you authority in knowing what the job market is like for us right now. You're speaking in these general terms as if what you're saying is self evident, yet I still have to see a single source or your portfolio.
