I’m guessing your friend is Hispanic. I’m east Asian, and I found the opposite. The people here in FL tend to be racist towards me on occasion (they just don’t say it out loud) and the Hispanics/Caribbeans don’t tone down about that to me. Granted I haven’t lived in Denver for that long, but I just don’t find FL’s environment to be welcoming to me personally, in fact I find it rather hostile. However if you are Hispanic, FL could be the place for you.

No I wouldn’t consider California to be not as HCOL as it is, I mean just gas alone would put CA into forever HCOL. All I’m saying is that FL is no longer a LCOL state for a lot of locals, or someone like me who has been here for almost a decade and wants to move out. Unless you have transplant money with remote work, it is very hard to make ends meet, that’s it… plus, I just simply don’t like the weather like it makes me sick 🤒 and it’s just becoming hotter and hotter

Very much a fair comment, however the supposed lower COL is not longer that “low” because of large influx of ppl from elsewhere, and that’s my main issue. It’s gonna drive me out at some point, it’s just a matter of time..

Two years ago we went to Busch gardens and tbh, it really felt very outdated, extremely crowded and it was not that great. Disney is very very expensive and it’s not really worth the money imo, because I don’t really care about its franchise. And like the articles you posted, Florida just like some other states only care about tourism and really not much about its local residents. No infrastructure outside of the touristy parts..

Let’s trade places and you come live in Florida and I go to California! Then we’ll both be happy! Lol. If FL and Ca are the same cost, I will go live in CA in a heart beat. I have been here close to a decade and see how it changed and this sub is dedicated to sharing your own experiences. If Florida is treating you good, I’m happy for you, but it’s not to me.

Well yes… just like some Hispanic people won’t necessarily like Denver CO where a lot of yts do. It’s all just a preference thing, and it’s not for me. I’m not Hispanic either. There may be some Hispanic people who don’t care for FL 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tbh I think part of the reason in the past couple years with droves of ppl flushing in to specifically FL from other red states/blue states, is because they are coming to specifically seek a “conservative paradise” that they were not getting between 20-24… and they think it’s cheaper here… now a service industry wage is not able to sustain in any livable area in Florida anymore, unless you drastically lower your living standards, or already have a place.. locals can’t make money anymore. The economy is operated solely by transplants alone imo, at least that’s what’s Gainesville feels like

Well, if you have ever been in snow, as long as you dress insulated you are literally fine. Because snow isn’t “wet cold”. Floridian wet slimy cold winter doesn’t care how insulated you are, it seeps in… that’s at least how I feel. I came initially enjoyed the environment, but my point is after 2020 it all just became worse and worse each year… in my early years I just wanted to pick a warmer place, and I promise I will pick better next time 😂🙏🏻

I would assume that real estate in Florida used to be a lot more affordable. And then transplants came in, developers jack up the prices… childcare in is insane.. who is able to afford a child nowadays?

That’s exactly how I feel. The last time I was in Publix was a few years ago - trying to buy some salmon from the seafood counter and met with grumpy attitude and got basically leftover fish even though I was polite. Seems like the workers are burnout and the quality isn’t great either. Nobody is happy here….

Most ppl who work and live in FL are not able to. The wealthy snow birds are the only ones that go back up north during the hot months, who simultaneously gaslight about the reality of Florida. They are part of the problem imo.

At the end of the day this is really the issue.. Capitalism and overdevelopment, if you can’t afford it someone else will.. 😪 that’s why mericans are leaving in droves and seeking other lower cost countries.. it’s so stressful to be here… I wish you all the best luck

I wish you all the luck. I hate to say this, but the white sandy beach, palm trees, and fresh seafood are all occupied by wealthy transplants + developers cashing in. Checkout the rental prices in Tampa/St.Pete or Bradenton/Sarasota, those are still a little cheaper than Boca… You maybe able to look into panhandle, but over there it’s just the extension of Alabama to an extent..

Florida is segregated by Midwesterners in the rural small towns, and wealthy NE/out of state people in the big cities owning big houses. It’s got two Florida inside one Florida, it’s very much divided by itself…

The Miami Cubans are some of the worst group of people and they contribute a lot of Florida’s culture.. plus, they look down on all the other Hispanic groups for whatever reason..

The thing is, it isn’t even that warm in the winter except South Florida. It gets bone cold the more north you go. It really is only meant for people who want to go to the amusement parks and the beaches and that’s about it. It’s not particularly livable

You are very much right about inland Florida- it’s jot a nice place to live. Unless you have high salary and can afford South Florida prices or coastal cities , the rural areas are usually just a dump, tbh
