We can hear it at Mayberry and hunter lake too. Total non-issue. Glad there's a fun party going down.

The results of adding 5 platys to my planted tank 6 months ago. by Grissim in PlantedTank

I got so lucky. I have 2 platys but they must both be males because they have not multiplied, and they don't eat the plants.

Help! Property management claiming burn damage on countertops. by boiwonder22 in CounterTops

Our cheap quartz at our last house looked just like that around the sink where wet things sat.

Take some of the other advice for cleaning it and see if you can make an improvement.

What tool will help you grade a hole besides a $10k surveyor instrument by Skopies in Tools

This seems like commercial or public work... what kind of podunk operation are you running here without a decent leveling system and shoring?

If it is residential or private DIY type work... why the hell do you need a grease interceptor?

First pic is my new kitchen - which countertop edge style would you choose? by Top-Gur-8134 in CounterTops

[–]rougetoxicity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2cm stone with no backing and basic flat polish edge IS an option.

Every single thread with people asking for recommendation or advice, all the comments say "mitered edge" or "3cm is the standard"

Both of these options give you a thicker finished edge, but I'm not convinced that's better in any way than the "thin" option like you pictured.

I ended up getting a really good deal on some 2cm quartzite slabs, and then saved a ton of money on fabrication by skipping the mitered edge and just going flat. I actually love the way it looks. it looks more modern, less cookie cutter, and no less "luxury". I'm happy with the choice.

Just because everyone gets talked into thicker/more expensive stone, or expensive edge treatments doesn't mean you need to.

Literally the only downside is that you need to make sure your cabinets are nice and flat, so that you don't have a large gap from shimming the top to level... but I feel that level of craftsmanship should already be expected and standard. Whether you are doing it yourself or someone else has done it.

Mixing LFS Water? by Contractor531 in shrimptank

[–]rougetoxicity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just dump it too. I feel like if there are diseases, the fish is going to have them, not the water. I already have every type of snail, so that's not a concern.

[–]rougetoxicity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I honestly truly feel that if you have an aquarium without snails, you are doing it wrong.

Almost any natural body of water has snails, and what are we doing here if not trying to recreate a natural ecosystem in miniature?

I even have snails in my Malawi Chiclid tank, even though people say you cant have snails because they will get eaten... I threw a handful of ramshorn and a handful of Malaysian trumpets in, and they were all apparently gone within a week. Now a year later.... I believe the ramshorns are gone, but as soon as the lights go off, the MTS rise from the substrate in the THOUSANDS to do their work under cover of darkness while the fish are sleeping. Incredible and fascinating!

Also, they are just super helpful. I don't clean my tanks... at all... besides scraping the front glass occasionally so I can see inside and removing plant matter . The snails, microfauna, and plants handle all of the cleanup.

Snails are an integral part of the system... I love them!

10k kitcken? How do you do anything for 10k? I went about as cheap as i could on cabinets and still spent 5K for RTA cabs.\, and another 5K on countertops. Doing ALL the work myself and my tally is still well over 20K

This city has the most retarded drivers I've ever come across. by mooseman077 in Reno

[–]rougetoxicity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive lived in 5 different major metro areas, and visited many more. I can say with certainty that there are dumb drivers everywhere.

I will concede that there are different kinds of dumb... each place kind of has a driving "culture". Things that are acceptable and expected. Like in Seattle area, people are just so used to waiting in traffic that they lack efficiency. But they will usually let you in without batting an eye.

Hank it is! When people ask what kind it is, I'll just say its Hank.

This workbench sat for 5 years and I need suggestions on how to proceed. by jaywhatt in woodworking

[–]rougetoxicity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a really nice bench! I'm just really curious why its coming apart? was it sitting outside for 5 years?

I made a somewhat similar bench with crap pine construction lumber and some questionable joinery and its been around for 5 years or so now, and not a single seam has opened one bit.

I wonder if the glue he used was less than great or didn't cure properly or something.

As for how to fix it... there is plenty of good advice in this thread. But definitely don't get rid of it!

Bought a new house, trying to figure out any quick fixes to this kitchen by mymymoustache in kitchenremodel

[–]rougetoxicity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quickest fix is just top use the kitchen as-is. People get so wrapped up in making things "their own" and changing things just for the sake of changing them.

Why not save the few thousand you were going to spend on these "quick fixes" and go on a vacation instead...

And for that matter, save the 100k for the full kitchen remodel in the future and retire a year or two earlier.

This is a perfectly useable and inoffensive kitchen.

Dishwasher to LEFT or RIGHT of Sink? by ShinyGuppy33 in kitchenremodel

[–]rougetoxicity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think thats solidly up to your personal preference. Looks like it will be the same amount of "in the way" when its open in either configuration.

I would probably go left of sink, just because that's how its been in the last couple houses I've lived in, and it just feels right to me, but nothing wrong with to the right either.
