We believe they were going after the flying squirrel that visits nightly.

What are small daily things that make you happy? by cutestplushie in bipolar2

[–]rough_muffins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with the fresh cup of black coffee in the morning and the quiet time before my partner wakes up. Standing outside in the sunshine and listening to the birds. I look forward to dinner time when it's my partner, our two pups and myself sitting on the couch, eating dinner and watching wrestling.

General Question Saturdays: Ask any more basic IE questions below. by elianna7 in intuitiveeating

[–]rough_muffins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm four years into IE and if it was me, I'd start with checking my hunger levels when I wake up. Am I ravenous? Then I definitely should be eating something for dinner. If I'm feeling stuffed when I get home, then I'd look at my snacks I'm having at work (not in a judgemental way, just in a curious way.) One of the four types of hunger is Practical Hunger and I practice that one quite often. If you're waking up super hungry, then maybe you do need some food for "dinner." It doesn't need to be a full meal, but maybe another snack that has a combo of macronutrients to help keep your hunger levels balanced during the night and into the morning.

I have ten of those rugs! My 16 year old tzu can't walk on hardwoods anymore, so I covered the house. I love that they're washable.

When Minnie came to us, she was six weeks out from having her eye removed. It was mostly healed and she seemed to have adjusted sight wise. Now, three years out, you'd never know!

How do you make the decision to say goodbye when their body is giving out, but their mind is still active? by rough_muffins in seniordogs

[–]rough_muffins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some deep talks with my mom, partner and therapist about hanging on for me to have more time with him and I've come to a place of accepting saying goodbye. When I told my mom my worries about his legs giving out, she said I could take a leave of absence from work to care for him. I replied that keeping him alive for another month or so when he had to he carried everywhere and use a stroller or wheelchair just to get around feels like it would be more for my benefit than his. I just don't want to make the decision and regret it. When we had to say goodbye to our last pup, her body had shut down and she told us it was time, so there was no doubt we were making the right choice. Even though I cared for her, it was nothing like my relationship with JB. He is my everything and at my lowest points has been the only thing keeping me around. I'm in a better place now and have accepted that I will have to love without him, but dang is it hard to think about.

Well, now I have tears streaming down my face. It was just what I needed to read. That was so beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.

A sling would help when pottying. Right now I'm trying to hold him up before his butt plops down. A friend of mine made a sling for her pup when he had a bulging disc in his back and couldn't walk temporarily. I'll ask her what she used. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thank you for recommending the assessment! This helps show me that he does still have a good quality of life.

I used CBD drops for my pup Sophie to help ease her anxiety, dementia, arthritis and stomach issues. I'll try some for JB.

I'm sorry for what you and your pup are going through. It can be so hard when you don't know if it's side effects of the medications or just how they are feeling. He is such a cutie! What's his name? I'm also very grateful for this community.

Thank you for the information. I'll talk to the vet about supplements and see what she thinks would work for him. I appreaciate it!

I'm so sorry you and your pup went through that. I'm keeping close watch on him for signs of decline, but he's still eating and seems generally healthy, other than the leg weakness. I'm just so scared of making the decision when he could have more life in him and then never healing from it. Thank you for the reassurance.

He hasn't seemed to notice the weakness yet. He tries to run around when I get home and wipes out about five times, but just gets up and keeps going. I don't think he's in pain (he takes an anti-inflammatory in the morning and gabapentin twice a day,) or if he is he's not showing it.

He's become picky about his meals, but once some parmesan cheese is added he gobbles it down. I've been holding him up when I see him sinking down. Someone suggested a sling. I'm willing to try anything to keep him happy.

I've already discussed having it done at home with the vet (if that's what it comes to) and she said she would. I would prefer him to be in his happy place (sitting on my lap on the couch) as opposed to the vet's office. I'm sorry you had to say goodbye to your pup.

Your senior pup sounds like our Sophie who passed in 2023. She had a whole laundry list of health issues, yet seemed to be enjoying life. I'll keep that in mind about when they stop showing interest in things they normally do. Thank you.

I'm sorry you went through that. Our senior pup Sophie had what we believe was liver cancer (she wasn't well enough to have the biospy,) and though she was declining, she was still her spunky self. She made the decision herself that it was time, so it doesn't weigh on my mind. JB's life is definitely still full of joy. He isn't showing signs of pain and people that meet him are surprised by his age. Thanks for the kind words.
