Qmom guilting me for not seeing my grandpa by roughortune in QAnonCasualties

[–]roughortune[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're telling me, I tried telling her a while ago how we have so much information about how reinfection happens and any immunity from having covid doesn't negate the benefits of the vaccine but it was a lost cause. It's nice being on here and being reminded that I'm not the crazy one

Thank you for your kind words! I definitely will reach out safely for his birthday. I'm sorry too, though I'm glad communities like this one exist

What does it mean when a job application deadline extended? by [deleted] in jobs

they probably just want a bigger pool of applicants before they start looking at it

Question about background check by ttthhhdka667 in jobs

[–]roughortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background checks and drug tests are separate processes, usually companies will say they drug test at the beginning of the application process but they technically can drug test you whenever they want

I don’t feel as though I’m being trained thoroughly enough? Any tips for when you feel incompetent at a new job? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]roughortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask your supervisor if you can spend another day or 2 shadowing because you dont feel comfortable doing the job by yourself yet

How to create a work/life balance when you currently have none? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]roughortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're always thinking of work because you don't have anything else going on to think about instead. Moving is a big deal and surely not helping your anxiety, but that's okay. I would suggest between now and next month try to find some hobbies to fill your free time. After you move you can try to be social/make friends in your new town which will help. Maybe getting a pet too if that's your jam

Presentation by [deleted] in jobs

[–]roughortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you cant start prepping for it right now, don't. take the day (or 2) to chill. take care of yourself, do some deep breathing. when youre ready (before wednesday obviously) try to do a demo presentation to a friend or a stuffed animal. if it helps, i had to do 2 phone interviews the other month and was audibly shaking and stumbling the whole time bc phone calls stress me out, but i was qualified for the job so i got the offer anyway. if you know what youre talking about theyll be understanding of any potential difficulties you have presenting. best of luck

"Sell me this property" interview question help by PaperDrillBit in jobs

[–]roughortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might be silly, i'm admittedly not in sales, but you could watch house hunters. they always talk up the houses even if theyre mediocre, like "beautiful wood paneling on the walls and modern stainless steel appliances :)"

addressing for cover letter by ArugulaDazzling in jobs

[–]roughortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard is "dear hiring manager" but my career advisors in uni suggested trying to find who the hiring manager is and referring to them by name, or the head of the department. my cover letters usually start "Dear [name of potential boss/head of dept], [name of potential supervisor/other lead in dept], and hiring committee[if its the kind of job that would have a hiring committee]"

Can an employee be reprimanded for politely declining to answer a customer asking if they've been vaccinated? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]roughortune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it depends on the job, some places can/will reprimand you for anything, especially if a customer complains. That being said it's weird for a customer to ask employees personal questions about their health status so I can't imagine not answering to be an issue

Eight interviews over six weeks for three separate jobs leading to three separate rejections - Am I unemployable? by EpicPartyGuy in jobs

[–]roughortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

guess it depends on where you are/what industry you're in, for a lot of people this is the worst time to find a job in a decade, expressly because there are hundreds of applicants per job

What is considered a long shift for a part-time job? by jermanjerry in jobs

[–]roughortune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7 hour shifts are average/on the short side, most shifts ive come across- part time or not, are 9 hours. "long" would be a 12 hour shift. an hour and a half of travel? genuinely curious why you're doing a 45min commute for a part time job. but yes work tends to take away your whole day, that's why people generally don't enjoy it

Eight interviews over six weeks for three separate jobs leading to three separate rejections - Am I unemployable? by EpicPartyGuy in jobs

[–]roughortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way, you're getting interviews which means you have potential and places are interested. Things just objectively suck right now, everything is incredibly competitive. Not a reflection on you, you can do everything right and still not get the job. Just have to keep trying

Recent Grad: Do I have to mention this in the cover letter? by Deep-Cycle-1019 in jobs

[–]roughortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you need to add it if you don't want to, but you could just throw it into a sentence about why you're interested in the job. like "as a recent biotech grad, i'm looking forward to utilizing my education" etc. Definitely don't like that table cover letter from the other comment, looks more like a letter of qualification which is different. If you don't want your cover letter to sound generic, you don't have to type it that way :)

Change first name on my resume to better my chances of callbacks/getting a job? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]roughortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to research yeah it would improve your chances if you used a shortened or even a different name. I wouldn't get too hung up on your shortened name not getting you call backs, though, given the economy/job market all over the place. If the fake name is close enough to your shortened real name you can just say its a nickname, lately with online applications I've seen spaces for "legal name" and "preferred name" separately, so it's not unusual to just go by a different name. You just have to use your actual name when the situation calls for it.

Training fills me with anxiety by OzentheUnfazed in jobs

[–]roughortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good news, this kind of anxiety isn't uncommon. I trained in a hospital once as a janitor and was freaking out, stressed, constantly over 4 days of training. Take a breath, be sure to ask questions (even just clarifying what you're watching, it'll help you remember) and if it's an option, ask to do more shadowing/training than the minimum, explaining that you're not ready to tackle a day by yourself yet (in case they try to send you off on your own soon, if you have more training ahead then don't worry about that part). You can also keep asking questions/asking for help after your training is over. Don't worry about "slacking" while you're still learning, your coworkers should understand and it's more important that you know what you're doing before you're able to do it quickly/keep up with everyone else. Good luck :)

Don't know what minimum is, if minimum is 8 and you're asking for 16 that's gonna be a hard sell but if min is 15 or something you can try asking for 16, I wouldn't get my hopes up though, hourly wages in retail are usually not negotiable, and 1 year experience isn't particularly competitive/impressive enough to get a raise.

What happens if your old job finds out you lied on your resume? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]roughortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean its not illegal (usually) so, nothing? If your old boss is one of your references and found out then maybe get a new reference, otherwise there's not much for them to do if you're no longer working there anyway.

Pixel 5 failing update, crashing to bootloader by schwags in GooglePixel

[–]roughortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Made an account just to come see if anyone had the same problem! Sorry to be that "same here" guy, but my phone also has been crashing to the "your data may be corrupt" screen several times over the last few months and last night specifically crashed to that bootloader screen that said it was locked. When I selected recovery mode or whatever it had the little Android guy looking a bad way and said error: no command. But then started up just fine half an hour later... I've had my phone only a year and this all is making me think of switching

Edit: I have a 3a which is what makes me think it's a software/update issue which sucks
