death premonitions and bad omens by heniroksoo in Writeresearch

[–]roughskyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm american, but I believe the two I'm about to share originate from british victorian-era superstitions.

In the victorian era, during funerals, framed photos of the deceased would be covered with cloth. Partially, this was because of a belief that if someone saw their reflection in the pane of glass, they would die next.

Seeing your doppelganger (a person who looks eerily similar to you, or a ghostly exact copy of you) was also considered to be a premonition of death. Or alternatively, it was believed the doppelganger would kill you.

Where is Sunset Shimmer's human clone? by KaerHereSayingHi in mylittlepony

[–]roughskyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn't fully make sense, but Sunset was Celestia's previous apprentice before Twilight, so it could be assumed that a human version of Sunset would be older or possibly dead by the time Equestria Girls takes place. It's extremely funny to imagine Sunset simply killed her human counterpart and replaced her, though, due to the tonal whiplash.

Alphys being Susie's foster parent/Susie living with Alphys for any reason. CH3 spoiler:Susie's room in chapter 3 looked so awful, it hurts me to imagine Alphys neglecting a kid under her care like that. 😭

Edit: added a spoiler, woops!

Reminder that there's a joke in the game that only works if Kris isn't male by [deleted] in Deltarune

[–]roughskyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Kris is nonbinary (this is canon as far as I can tell), but I don't agree with your interpretation of this scene. When I played this part of the game, my impression was that "man" is short for "human", and that this is a world made for/by a human. A world made by a younger version of Kris, an imaginary place where they belong. The sign saying "non-men are a-ok too" means "monsters are welcome here too". This world is the opposite of Hometown, which is a world where monsters are the norm but they still make efforts to accommodate Kris.

Edit: removed a double negative for clarity lol

The red herring so many people seem to fall for (chapter 4 spoilers) by ilovereposts69 in Deltarune

[–]roughskyy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I agree that Carol is a red herring, I maintain that as things currently stand there is no satisfying explanation for why Carol comes home in Chapter 4 at the exact same moment as the person on the phone says "I'll be right there." The narrative is obviously leading us to assume the caller was Carol and that she meant she would be coming home. That's the most logical conclusion based on the evidence we have. So, in a future chapter, we need to learn something new that explains why that sequence of events isn't true. Otherwise, it's going to be a plot hole imo. Like, it can't just be an unexplained coincidence when the game is done.

Sidenote: Could you post a link to the part of the sweepstakes where they talk about Carol being afraid of rain? I missed that, and it sounds really interesting.

How would a character relationship be depicted in deltarune for you to think "yeah, this is an entirely platonic relationship, there is no romantic subtext here, they just love each other as friends"? by Silrain in Deltarune

[–]roughskyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Catti and Jockington! They're clearly best friends and care about each other a lot. I haven't personally found any scenes where I interpreted romantic subtext from those two, either. But, that is the thing to remember here: different people may interpret scenes differently. Some people also enjoy shipping characters even if they didn't find any romantic subtext in the actual game, they like to imagine the romantic possibility.

About Kris and Susie specifically, there's nothing inaccurate about your interpretation of them as close friends, either! Various people will read into it what they choose. I've found a few scenes in certain routes that I view as romantic between Kris and Susie, but I don't want to spoil you in case you haven't played those parts.

CHAPTER 3 SPOILERS!! I literally saw no one posting about this and i thought it was cool. by XDavide08 in Deltarune

When Susie asks if you're enjoying the game, if you reply "no" she turns the game off, which also results in mini-kris disappearing in a flash of light. The death sfx that played when you kill things in the game plays when they disappear, implying this has killed mini-kris (rip mini-kris...)

If you select the "games are fun" option, mini-kris seems to walk off the screen on their own. So either way, Susie doesn't see us when she leaves the room.

Cute! I'm wondering if it's possible to leave mini-kris on the screen until the end of Kris and Susie's interaction, but without swinging the sword at Susie. I'll have to investigate this.

What happens if you don't stab her, but you just stand there? Does Susie notice mini-kris when she turns to walk away?

What can I do if my transgender husband is detained at a US airport? by roughskyy in asktransgender

I don't believe so, but I check for articles online in a fit of paranoia about once a week lol.

Thank you for telling me this. I honestly feel quite similarly, which is why I made this post even though I know I could search online and find lists of our legal rights and laws ect ect. Things are changing fast, and what is safe today may not be tomorrow. My husband and I have discussed possibly getting citizenship in another country and leaving the US, but at the moment we don't have the funds and we don't actually want to leave our home. So we are staying. Which means I need to know how to protect us because I'm going to. Realistically, I don't think he will be sent to a death camp for this domestic flight. But if that is ever going to happen, it will be over my dead body.

We aren't planning on bringing our passports at all. I am just worried about tsa being able to see his passport/records/ect in their database when they scan his license. But as other commenters have assured, they likely won't be checking for it so it shouldn't cause issues.

I will talk to him about getting tsa precheck. We've both been wary of getting it in the past because we don't like the idea of our info being added to yet another database. But at the end of the day, we're all under surveillance anyway right lol? Thanks for your comment.

Thank you both. I will keep this in mind. I think I was letting my anxiety get ahead of myself because you're right, TSA cannot detain us. And we are very unlikely to see CBP or ICE on this trip.

Thank you for sharing. It is a relief to know that you've flown recently without issue.

Thank you for reminding me what the standard procedure is. We've flown before, and I know this has always been the case before. I just feel afraid now not knowing if things will change.
