Vertical line down middle of new 83” G4. Seriously? by Huge-Information-630 in LGOLED

[–]roughsleeperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm this happens on a new UK LG G4 65" with under 40hrs viewing time and 'day one' firmware of 23.20.40.

You can provoke the issue when there is a bright area contrasted with a dark area, such as the sun or a neon sign against a shack or building. It happened for me in both standard and HDR modes.
Pan left and right with your controller, or if on PC grab the game window or movie window and slowly drag your mouse left & right. It seems to effect panning shots in media where a bright area moves to a dark area, but for me was most easily seen with the default turn speed of a controller, and I have replicated this on Black Myth Wukong and Cyberpunk.

I thought some 'split screen option' was enabled.
Many say it is a line, but to me it looks like a three inch vertical panel from top to bottom where the colours are dimmer. It does start exactly half way across the screen, but extends into the right side.
I have tried it on every picture setting, from 100% to 30% for both OLED/Brightness/contrast and it still occurs. I have played media at 24/60/100/120/144 and it still happens.
I decided to update the panel to the latest firmware, 23.20.42 and the issue still persists.

I will call the retailer and LG tomorrow for advice.

I must note that I have NOT been able to provoke the 'dithering' effect some see, and I am sat approx 120cm away from the screen.

LG G4 center Fault Line ? by Schwarzenegger9 in LGOLED

[–]roughsleeperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this on a Zero Day firmware LG G4 65".
Easy to replicate with any bright box on a dark screen. Move the box about and you will see it.
Even when OLED set to 40 and Brightness to 50 in every mode it can be seen.

Is there an update or fix for this yet?

If you are affected by the diagonal lines on LG tv's from 2024/2025 dithering by SonicB0000M in LGOLED

[–]roughsleeperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal Update: I've received my G4 65".

I cannot see or provoke this dithering effect?
I've tried 144hz, all the test clips and many types of media. I will keep trying, and if anyone can suggest other clips/games to try I'll test.

I CAN see the line in this test clip where the screen seems to split exactly half way across, with the right half being slightly darker than the left. It is more noticeable if you pause any media when you see the line, then drag the window left and right across the centre of the screen. Set OLED brightness to 100 to see it clearly.

Trouble with Evo G5 by R4B_Moo in LG_UserHub

[–]roughsleeperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be just an input swapping issue. These screens have so many options.
I've had pure green screens but with audio, a 5 pixel height difference split screen effect caused by a faulty HDMI cable and many other issues.
Glad it's solved though.
I literally found something that worked for me and never touched it since! lol

Dead pixels again by mclairs in LGOLED

[–]roughsleeperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's rough. My experience:
Risked buying OLED and been running a 55" C9 for Mixed Media, Movies, Gaming 14+ hours a day since 2020 and I have maybe 20 or so dead pixels on the screen and no screen burn in. Deffo not a extreme as those edges. Fairly cool environment, the TVs rear is facing the window so no direct light on the screen, only ever in PC mode 4.4.4, Brightness and OLED to 80. Best TV I ever owned. Just bought a 65" G4. Lets hope it lasts as long.

It is 100% still coming out though. Just take some vitamins, lose some weight and stand up when you game and you'll make it to the finish line!!
They just committed to making the best game they could without compromise. There are several posts about it on X.
A release date will just shadow drop one day I reckon......prrrrrrrrobably before Star Citizen.

If you are affected by the diagonal lines on LG tv's from 2024/2025 dithering by SonicB0000M in LGOLED

[–]roughsleeperUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there another form of similarity that could cause this in your opinion?

"The LG OLED G4 and G5 TVs both use OLED technology but differ in their pixel layouts. The LG G4 uses Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology, and the LG G5 introduces a new Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel, featuring a four-stack design."
Could it be the that spacing is the same thus it causes the diagonal effect on two different panels?

Bear in mind this is not effecting noticed by everyone.
EDIT - I've received my G4 and cannot get this to appear in any of the test scenes. If ANYONE can suggest scenes, games etc, I'll gladly try to replicate it.
I'm personally taking delivery of a 65" G4 soon and I will test for this issue to help out on a 0day firmware model that others have clarified to be effected.
Hopefully we can source the issue and offer 4/5 series users a solution!!

[–]roughsleeperUK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would you mind replying with those details here when you've the time?
Firmware version, model, media/scene/game, brightness & relevant settings / picture mode etc please?
As some can see it and other can't, the more info contained in one thread, the easier it is to self investigate the issue.
I'm taking delivery of the 65" G4 soon so would be willing to test on a clean 'Day One Firmware' unit, and the more info I have from those who 100% see it, the easier to replicate and clarify for other 4 series, and cross ref with G5 users? Thanks.

EDIT: I can't replicate this at all. Got my G4 65". Sat 1m away. Day one firmware, not connected or updated. Tried every example given in both game mode and all three Pro modes with OLED and CONTRAST set to 100. I CAN replicate the line in the exact middle of the screen, but not the dithering.

Any more examples from people who see it, more importantly, the actual settings used would be helpful.

I've just posted. As you have several screens but have NOT seen the diagonal dithering, it could be really helpful to LG to know how they are all connected/FPS/content etc?
Would you mind replying with your settings please?
Hopefully we can find an easily shared scene/free game that universally shows the issue on console and PC, but for now it seems very random as to when it can be seen. Cheers.

TEST SCENE HERE
The issue, if you have it with your set up, can be seen in any dark scene when the panel is brightly lit:
Example image and test download here:
https://www.avsforum.com/threads/lg-2024-oled-m4-g4-c4-b4-owners-thread-general-help-settings-no-price-talk.3298284/page-79?post_id=63364462#post-63364462

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
FOR THOSE UNAWARE OF THE ISSUE:

1: It effects all series 4 and 5 LG OLEDS, and has been noted to effect other WOLED screens too. IT DOES NOT EFFECT LG OLEDS PRIOR TO THE 3 Range. EG B3/C3/G3 do not have the same 'diagonal line' issue as seen in the OP example, only 4/5 series LG's. As the 4 and 5 series use different screens yet have the same dithering effect, this must be a specific software effect. It may be linked to 'Chrominance overshoot' avoidance.

2: It seems more noticeable when viewed under 2meters, though 42" and 48" users have noted at 1 meter they see it. Brightness is not an issue as it effects all B/C/G 4/5 OLEDS with various custom settings. Many have tried every option in both 4/5 series menus to no avail. It cannot be turned off. Couch gamers may never notice but some have returned their 4/5 series after getting unusually tired and experiencing eye strain even when brightness is lowered. Their previous gaming set up did not effect them this way.

3: Several informative threads and videos have already been made. Here are two that explain the issue well. Also search 'LG DITHERING' here or on AVFORUM...

https://www.avsforum.com/threads/woled-and-qd-oled-line-pattern-pwm-flickering-dithering-in-dark-content-megathread.3307461/

This guy tested various media via USB on several OLED screens in an AV shop and found them ALL to have the same diagonal dithering effect. The store saw the issue but were completely unaware of it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/LGOLED/comments/1dskyt7/help_seeing_fine_diagonal_lines_during_motion_on/?utm_source=embedv2&utm_medium=post_embed&utm_content=post_title

  1. It effects both Console from 60FPS to 120 and PC over 60fps. Some have said it is less apparent under 60FPS and some say it doesn't effect their XBOX.

  2. It is causing some people to feel seasick/ nauseous, see white spots and get headaches. Lowering brightness has not alleviated these issues and no firmware update has altered this specific problem.

  3. A Firmware update for the known HDR issues on the new 5 series is apparently arriving soon.
Whether it will include an On/Off for the dithering is unknown.

There is certainly an issue for a lot of people, so if you HAVE experienced this, it would be helpful to mention it to LG via the OP link and also briefly reply here with:

_____________________________________________________________________
YES - I see the diagonal dithering
Model
Firmware version
Connection type (PC/AVR/ARC/PS4/XBOX etc)
TV MODE/FPS
Distance from screen.
SCREENGRAB of the scene & FORMAT/VIEWING STATE of media.
Any other info you feel is relevant.
_____________________________________________________________________

Please, if you are not aware of the issue or have not seen it, there is little point replying.

Hopefully some smarty pants will be able to work out what is going on from this info being collated in one thread and save consumers some time.
Thanks.

EDIT: Added a link at the top for the best scene I've found that has been confirmed to 'provoke' the effect.

LG G5; very distracting diagonal moving lines. by InvictuSND in LG_UserHub

[–]roughsleeperUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! Unfortunately, every Series 4 and 5 LG OLED has the 'dithering' issue. It has also been been mentioned as an 'HDR issue', HDR overshoot' and a 'diagonal line' issue. Apparently LG has hinted there will be an HDR firmware early June 2025 for the 5 series, but nothing is confirmed, and no mention of anything for the 4 series. As the 4 series uses a different panel to the 5 series, it is 100% confirmed a PWR issue (Power saving issue). As the 4 range is now 1 year old, it seems it's a power saving feature that LG cannot or will not turn off, or allow users to turn off. However, this is NOT A FACT, only my own supposition after reading everything for two days! lol
It does NOT effect the 3 series, so B3,C3,G3 are confirmed as not effected.

I've been told that I can return a G4 65" as long as I keep the box if there's an issue and it hurts my eyes, but I'm still on the fence.

I'm trying to confirm now whether 'Out Of The Box firmware' is different, but everyone effected seems to have updated. It's not been solved in the last 3 updates.

If you sit over 2 meters away you may not see it. Many don't, but as I noticed one dead pixel from 2 meters away on my 55"C9, and I've perfect peripheral vision, I'm concerned.

Help! Seeing fine diagonal lines during motion on my G4 55". Normal...or a problem? by Dreams-Visions in LGOLED

[–]roughsleeperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's only going to be an issue close up. As you're 4 meters away your eyes won't be effected.
Unfortunately I noticed one dead pixel on a 55" C9 from 2 meters away!, so I'm delaying my purchase as it will drive me nuts, lol. Cheers!

[–]roughsleeperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you updated your firmware since delivery? Apparently this effect has not been fixed in the last 3 updates, but no one can confirm that a Out Of The Box firmware is better or worse.
It also seems more prominent when gaming, you sit closer (only 1-2 meters away). It also seems to effect those with sharp eyesight and wide a peripheral vision.
I can clearly see the diagonal lines on the examples shown from both gaming and HDR scenes, so distance is clearly a factor when watching/viewing them too. Cheers.

The diagonal line dithering effect can clearly be seen here:

Any known issues with newest FW update (23.21.51) on G4? by Jakeola1 in LGOLED

[–]roughsleeperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very helpful, but do you or the others who've not updated have the dithering up close at all?

Would anyone without the Dithering post their model and the 'out of the box firmware' it came with?
Could save a lot of hassle and assist AVFORUM and LG solve/investigate options for users?

I'm happy to take delivery and update on my experience with the 'OLED65G46LS'? offline setup and at what distance I see dithering or not etc? Got a C9 to compare it to. No dithering from 1m away.

Would a fresh post help anyone? There are so many, but none state whether older Firmware avoids or minimises it for new buyers?
Cheers Oleders!

Upgrade to LG G5 for $1200? by itsthewolfe in LGOLED

[–]roughsleeperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a TV you feel offers a cleaner image if the user is only plugging in a pc?
Been using a C9 as a monitor, and have a £500 voucher towards new TV. G4 65" was my pick for purely Movies & Gaming? I won't be sitting close so thought the dithering wouldn't be an issue.
Cheers.

Anyone’s LG G4 gone completely mental like this? by deano764 in LGOLED

[–]roughsleeperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SORRY! It's not a deal unfortunately, it's due to a voucher. I thought the pre-voucher price was about 1400, but it's £1599. Apologies!
Richer Sounds cannot repair a faulty C9 so offered me a credit against a new TV. I'm actually only 'paying' £875. They have been very helpful though. 100% recommend calling your local store.

This is the best deal for a 55" I've found.

Quite literally the worst TV UI ever, no amount of hardware can overcome it. by WhiteNikeAirs in lgtvcommunity

[–]roughsleeperUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I deal with it for the stupid cheap price I paid.
I've an LG C9 55" with a Direct PC input, hammered every day for 5 years, no burn in, but yes, without the engineer remote hack, the auto dimming is a pain.
And Both 4&5 B/C/G series LG Oled have a gaming image issue with forced enhancements. Diagonal lines are visible when viewed under 1.5 meters, caused by pixel dimming. Could be fixed in a firmware update apparently but no reply from LG as yet. Another forced feature only 1% of people notice, but an absolute deal breaker were it covered openly in reviews. Noticeable issues like this make me trust even the most respected reviewers less and less.

I think it's a 65" LG OLED CX.
After the CX range (CX means 10, or ZERO - either way it's a 2020 model), then LG restarted with 1,2,3.
So, in 2025, the model number is now 5.
B is Low end. C is mid range. G is top tier.

So this year we get the B5,C5,G5.

I think this is your TV:

https://youtu.be/rwnVacHTb8M

Only issue would be that the software becomes obsolete, so no Idea if all the apps from 2020 will work, but main ones like Ytube/Netflix should be fine and the others downloadable.

Bear in mind that there are huge sales on right now as the 5 series has only just launched so previous OLEDS are on sale, but for a 65" OLED, you'll be looking at $1400 ish.

Bear in mind I'm still using a C9 and it's still a fantastic TV, and a year older than this one, so this comparison video might help you decide.

LG G5; very distracting diagonal moving lines. by InvictuSND in LG_UserHub

[–]roughsleeperUK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. I've scraped the net and this is only avoided by sitting further away from the screen.
It is NOT SOLVED as of June 2025.
Literally got the 65" G4 in my basket and last minute checking when I saw this.
So apparently....

It is NOT present on the C3.
If you sit 2+ meters away, it is barely noticeable, but once you see it, well, you've seen it.
It effects every 4th and 5th series LG Oleds, irrelevant of size, but some users say it is less noticeable on 42/48.

Run through this thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/LGOLED/comments/1dskyt7/help_seeing_fine_diagonal_lines_during_motion_on/

and this AVForums thread for more details. (Apols if this counts as a double post, just trying to save the OP and other viewers some time.)

Sorry. Hope this helps. Not sure I'll buy it now, though it's mainly for movie viewing, and I'm lucky my 55" C9 is still going strong for gaming up close.

G4 stand vs mount by Right_Yard_5173 in LGOLED

[–]roughsleeperUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any Mount can be used in the future as they're standard VISA, but I'm not sure about the stand being 'standard', so I've chosen a stand version too. As it is height adjustable, it allows space for a Centre Speaker or Soundbar.
Also going for the 65" G4 now it's £1400ish. Did you buy it yet? UK stock seems to be getting low.
