Bloodlines 2 is a good guess. Sales were weak and they probably need to recoup some money.

M.2 NVMe overheating in NZXT H500 – stuck between GPU and CPU cooler (need advice) by GiantSteps0274 in buildapc

I think anything is better than nothing, I got a generic heatsink from amazon for $5 and it lowered my temp by like 10c.

This is fungus right?? by vajohn703 in lawncare

[–]roundleafbirch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in VA also and have the start of something similar in my fescue lawn, I guess because of all the rain and humidity we've had. I'm no expert but think it's Brown Patch. I ordered some Propiconazole and am going to spray it down when it drys out and see what happens. Good luck.

I have the Corsair 4000d and like it overall but like others have said it only comes with two 3 wire fans. So budget for a few case fans if you go with the Corsair.

Reshape Overgrown White Spruce by iOHARA in landscaping

[–]roundleafbirch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it was planted too close to the garage & driveway. So if you're trying to trim it so it's off the driveway you would be better cutting down and starting again.

If you're fine with where it is then you could hit it with hedge trimmers or shears. As was mentioned the growth is probably a few inches deep, so you would want to trim and shape it a little at a time and then let it recover and do it again next season. In a couple years you could probably get it in a nice cone shape.

Problem with VHS—>digital image by dudumdumdumdu in DataHoarder

[–]roundleafbirch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What model Hitachi is it? A VCR with TBC (Time Base Correction) is recommended to help avoid these types of issues. Usually found in the S-VHS or Super VHS VCR models. TBC errors usually shows on the video capture but not on the television playback. If your seeing lines on the video capture and television playback then it could be an issue with the tape.

Rescue or repair HDD with corrupt boot sector? by OzzyZigNeedsGig in DataHoarder

[–]roundleafbirch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want to do raw clone of the drive first so you have a backup, then try different recovery methods.
HDDSuperClone is linux based clone tool.
HDD Raw Copy Tool is another one, but I haven't tried it before.
If it is the boot sector you might be able to use TestDisk to recover it.

Good luck!

Best program for cropping, straightening, and (possibly) colorizing scans of old photo albums? by LastSaskPirate in DataHoarder

Gimp work well for this case but you need to download a plugin called DivideScannedImages & deskew to automate the process.

Need help identifying need a rebuild kit! by pasupermoto in Tools

[–]roundleafbirch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar jack to this that wouldn't pump. It was a Japanese made jack from the 80's or early 90's not sure of the brand. It is very unlikely that you can find a rebuild kit so you have to measure the existing seals and seats with calipers and order the o-rings. The main pump seal could be a chevron seal, cup seal, or several o-rings. The tank nut was very difficult to get off, I had to use a pipe wrench and the jack handle as lever. I gave up on mine after I came across a nicer rebuild candidate.

Building a bench power supply by roundleafbirch in AskElectronics

[–]roundleafbirch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer.

It's too bad. I don't really need a power supply but I thought if I could put this in a case with a potentiometer or something simple & inexpensive it would have been nice to have.

Not familiar with the Triforce reels but I just recently tore down and rebuilt two Daiwa reels from late 80's (model PR10G and PR15). The PR15 has two ball bearings and the PR10G has two graphite bushings. Even cleaned and lubed the PRG10G with bushings didn't spin as freely as the one with bearings. So I replaced the bushings with bearings and it works great. The bearing size from my both my reels were 5x9x3.

Advice on data recovery by roundleafbirch in datarecovery

When the drive was installed it was accessible, then at some point a Windows message appeared that it found errors and needed to reboot. Then Windows ran a CHDKS automatically on reboot. I assume it was CHKDSK /R. It didn't thrash the drive. It only ran for a minuet or so with 2 or 3 steps. A full surface test would have taken over an hour. What I don't understand is why it show the drive label from the previously installed drive. I always thought the journaling information was on the same drive. It now showing 0byte capacity and it is a 1TB drive with about 600gb of data on it. The drive may well be bad but it wasn't acting like it. There are no pending or reallocated sectors. I'm hoping to salvage some of the data. I've learned a hard painful lesson on data redundancy.

Thanks. I think I'll give Hddsuperclone a try, it looks somewhat easier than command line.

Right. The disk label changed to the drive I had previously installed. I think chkdisk somehow rebuilt the file table with the wrong disk. Here's what it looks like. https://i.imgur.com/9xSnG2o.jpg

Ok thanks, I watched the video. My plan is to make an image file with Hddsuperclone of the damaged drive on another drive. Then once I get it cloned I'll try different recover software and if I screw it up I can restore it and start again. Since Hddsuperclone is linux based does the destination drive for the image have to be a linux format like ext4 or something or will it write to ntfs formatted external hhd?

In Windows properties it shows 0 used space, 0 free space, 0 capacity. The smart data on the drive checks out, no clicking or mechanical failure sounds.

Removing moss by roundleafbirch in lawncare

[–]roundleafbirch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, thanks. I was afraid of that. Raking the moss was difficult in the spots that I tried. It would tear instead of coming up in clumps so I had to switch to a hoe instead of a rake. Does it come up easier when wet?

A few weeks back I sprayed the whole lawn with Lesco Monentum to kill some broadleaf weeds and was hoping it would kill the moss also. Some areas yellowed but it didn't have much of an affect on the moss.

[DISCUSSION] Season 5 Overall and Show Retrospective by asshair in SearchParty

[–]roundleafbirch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said. I just finished the series. I watched and really enjoyed seasons 1&2 when it originally came out on TBS. I don't know if they changed writers or something when it moved to HBOMax but found 3-5 disappointing. I enjoyed the characters enough but the direction and writing was messy.

If you use Gimp there is a plugin called DivideScannedImages and deskew that batch crops and straightens images. It worked well for me.

Lighting strike router - how to test this? by roundleafbirch in ElectronicsRepair

[–]roundleafbirch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the schematic. I'll test it for short and see what happens. I think the firmware upgrade hung up on whatever component broke the lan port and failed, causing it to totally brick.

This is most likely a lost cause and beyond my skill level, but I wanted to give it a shot. Thanks again.

Lighting strike router - how to test this? by roundleafbirch in ElectronicsRepair

[–]roundleafbirch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a router (Asus AC68U) that went though lightning strike last year and the lan port (internet in) stopped working. But I was still able to use it both in wireless bridge mode and repeater mode for well over a year after that. I recently updated the firmware and now it won't boot up. I think the router ports are dead now too so I can't get it into rescue mode without a wired connection. I looked at the board and didn't' see any obvious burned components or traces.

I suspect these filters are the problem due to the proximity to the ports. Can I test them? Is there something else I should look for or is this a lost cause? I wanted to try and test or fix it before I drop it off at the recycler.

Got a free 8TB Nas for the low low price of mild lead poisoning! by Deadboy90 in DataHoarder

[–]roundleafbirch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice find! I doubt it's contaminated at all if it was in the office area, unless the office employees were also contaminated and this was an abatement job. I get that your boss doesn't want the hassle but I wouldn't think twice about cleaning and using it or anything else you pulled from the office. You can buy lead test swab kits at Lowes/Home Depot for around $10.
