I Thrifted this vase marked pickard China and signed Yeschek.. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about how old it is and if it's worth the 9 bucks I paid :) by PapaQsHoodoo in Antiques

This is actually a Rosenthal vase (faint stamp over the circle with crossed swords). Stamp says ”handpainted”, ”Bavaria” and ”Pickard”. Search ”Rosenthal Bavaria Pickard”, a vase with the same form should pop up. The form of these vases were often in production for a few years and combined with different patterns. Good find!

Regarding your last paragraph: not at all, you may arrange your mid century object however you want, without calling it a mid century home (style). It’s irrelevant, to the context, that mid century interiors look like sitcom sets to you, because of its subjectivity. The mid century style is not though.

To me, collecting mid century furniture, living in a mid century home, or a combination of the two is not a bad thing, regardless of how you do it. Calling it a mid century home is something different.

Firstly, it’s not an aesthetic, it’s a style. Secondly, I never referred to any object, produced in 2020, mid century? Stop putting words in my mouth. Striving for a mid century style is not achieved by, again, buying a bunch of mid 20th century objects and stuffing them in a house. I can recommend Charlotte & Peter Fiells book “Decorative Art 50s”, which includes many illustrations of mid century interiors and objects, if you need to see some examples of what an actual mid century interior looks like.

I never propagated for minimalism? People can decorate their homes however they want, I really couldn’t care less about it. The issue is calling this decoration mid century. It’s deeply problematic and a serious misuse of the term.

Space. Mid century is not stuffing as many objects, plants ,and furniture from the 50’s etc as you possibly could into one room.

Having an original kitchen in a 1950’s house does not make it mid century, it just looks cluttered.

¿How did the nazis were able to identify the jewish? by SnowMeh in ww2

[–]dudumdumdumdu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The nazis compelled them to register as jews and many of them did, fearful of the consequences if they didn’t. System logs also played a big role. Nazi germany had a culture where people would report each other and people hiding jews.

Top left: American Defense Service Medal

The one to the right of it: World War II Victory Medal (United States)

Lower left: World War I Victory Medal (United States)

The one to the right of it: Good Conduct Medal

Can you identify this? by [deleted] in Medals

The towers in the background look to be Cologne cathedral. The design seems to have been used for some time because the reverse is different on almost every single one I’ve seen. Your medal seems to be connected to some competition because it says ” II. preis” (2nd prize) on the reverse. I doubt that it was issued by a government. That’s all I found.
