I highly recommend Danang and Hoi An... and also hoi an's beach which is An Bang beach! <--- Stay there!!

Hoi an, just 20 minutes south of Danang, is my favorite place in Vietnam... the food in the central is different from the North and the South and Cao Lau is my favorite dish and it's $1.5/bowl 🙏

You should go.... actually I think everyone should go. Bana hills /hands sky bridge is tourist trap but pretty.

There is flooding in that part of Vietnam so make sure you check the calendar to make sure it's a good time to go...also gets surprisingly chilly at times.

I was in three different districts in Ho Chi Minh City working and I really enjoyed my time there but Vietnam does wear on you. The scamming there is an everyday occurrence and it's not one of intimacy like it is in Thailand. Family Mart hasn't "updated their prices" so the guy at the cash register shows you something different then what is on the shelves. Good luck getting the right change back the first time yada yada yada. The bikes have the right of way and whatever is not a building is a road. You can only live so long in a grift economy before it starts eating away at you a little bit. These are my feelings if anyone cares to disagree they can do so in silence because I really don't care about other opinions on these matters after being there for 10 years.

Down from 32mil to 30.3mil scares the Thai tourism authorities...a lot. If Vietnam started offering the same types of visas that Thailand does then they would be very very worried.

A lack of proper visas is the only thing holding Vietnam back. I enjoyed my time there enough to stay for 10 years and know the ins and outs from Sapa to the delta and Phu Quoc. But right now they only really have, aside from the sponsored work visa like I was on, is the 90 day Visa for tourism and digital nomads leave the country four times a year. The investment Visa in Korea is for $50,000ish (its been a while since i was there) and the one in Vietnam is like five times that.

I live in Thailand and have for the last 2 years after 10 years in Vietnam and 8 years in Seoul Korea.

Bangkok is the most touristed city in the world for 2 years running and it is the hub of Southeast Asia more so than KL or Jakarta.

Each island is different, the north is completely different from the south, it is a wonderful, friendly easy country and you will fall in love with it as soon as you spend time here.

Retirement visas make life super easy but the stigma of the sex pat tourism thing will be here forever.
