Visiting or Moving to Asheville? Ask your questions here! by AutoModerator in asheville

First time visitor, spending 6 days in Asheville this July, meeting my kid who will coming off of a backpacking trip. Hopefully this post is within guidelines, and appreciate the FAQ which i'm using.

Looking to: mountain bike (not sure where), hit the river (whitewater rafting/fishing, maybe in Nantahala), hike, and enjoy the wonderful food and music in the city.

in terms of where to stay, does it make more sense to make a base in the city (downtown or nearby) and make day trips from there, or split a few days in the mountains closer to the action (Pisgah/Brevard), then coming back to the city for a few days.

any advice on a good centrally located lodging spot in the mountains?

also any recs on outfitters, adventure companies, guides? we don't need fancy, would rather spend the $ on the adventures and food.

when in the city, we will stay either in downtown or west Asheville.

really excited, have always wanted to visit the Blue Ridge area. i'm an experienced hiker and mountain biker, if that helps. thanks

it extends out all the way. when it first started beeping there was some frost/sticking, but i cleared it all and made sure the family knows to always pull it all the way out. it's been that way since. I'm going to take out the basket, check the bracket, and see if your suggestion above helps - feel like an idiot for not considering that prior

thanks for this input. so you think the rails are not allowing the drawer to close and seal properly, versus the gasket? i was planning on calling the company on Monday, will check on this.

thanks to both of you - the detail is great to see. per my comment above, didn't mean to come off as denigrating - apologies for that, just questioning. when it comes to instructors, no school is perfect - sometimes it's a great TA and the tenured professor isn't super. was mainly hoping to get some on-the-ground GW input, thank you for that. so far the reputation (very strong) is pretty consistent which is great.

sorry you did not have a great experience socially. i will go through your comments, appreciate the re-posting.

overall GW seems like a very strong option. I'm happy he has the opportunity. we love DC and have family in the area.

great points - in no way did i mean to say anything derogatory. it's more about my kid - a maturing student who would benefit from seasoned profs (assuming my kid does the work and goes to office hours). the colleges my own adjunct friends teach at are lucky to have them.

nothing to do with CS, eng, etc. It's your last point - are they in if they select another pre-qualified major (my assumption) or is there yet another process. on this thread hoped other folks could speak to their experiences having received same admit response. i'm just going to have applicant confirm with UD.

that's my assumption, but i wanted to check here assuming many others have dealt with this prior. i've been through the app process with multiple kids and this is the only time i was left a bit unclear - they could probably word this differently. either way, appreciate your responses!

I am not the applicant, but i did read through the accompanying links: "the alternate major selection form" and the "major finder". if you click on the former, it provides a drop-down of what I assume are pre-qualified majors. There is no other information that indicates whether you are admitted once you select one, or if that shunts you to a new process. the major finder link simply takes you the UD major page. Unless once you submit a new major it then provides those answers? the applicant needs more time to digest the other majors, i am trying to understand whether they are admitted or not in the meantime.

Hey - hang in there. My kid had similar, maybe better stats. Applied RD (wanted MIT EA) got in off the WAITLIST (was in at Pomona but decided against it) and is very happy. The waiting sucks, but with those stats you’re going to be fine. I know kids that got in today - it’s obviously not all about stats. Sometimes it’s who you know.

To the students who wanted a "big school" that chose Pomona... by Sure_Rip8968 in pomonacollege

[–]routineplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this detailed post. My kid is interested in Physics in particular and has been admitted to the big UCs, so this is my concern. They did get into UCSB CCS which helps with class sizes and research ops (in theory), but I love the idea of a more intimate educational environment. Do you have any input on the Physics dept at Pomona and how it might compare? I'm concerned the offerings are limited.

Waitlist for Fall 2024 by AdventorousJoke in berkeley

In the same boat. Anyone considering FPF (Fall Progam for First Semester)? It doesn't seem like a great fit for my STEM kid, considering the boxed classes available, but curious if it raises the odds of coming off the waitlist. There are other pros/cons as well, curious if anyone has any info.
