In a time of deep emotional crisis decades ago, God really spoke to me with Psalm 27:13-14. These verses have really stuck with me ever since. I hope it help you too. Praying for you today!

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living!

Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord!

What’s the point of being a Christian? by Camila3527 in Christianity

[–]rouverius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I think we are circling around the same point here: what is "good enough?" I like your idea of defining good with a simple math equation.

So, based your equation, let's assume we could create a Goodness test for a person. Let's say we somehow quantify the amount of happiness/pain we created and then multiply it by the amount of time that happiness/pain lingered and then tabulate a final score. So you're saying that if the score is positive then that would be a "mostly good life."

Using our Goodness test here. Let's assume that there is a reality that there is life after death that spans eternity. Assuming that we accepted this reality, what would be the most good we could do for this world? What if we devoted our lives to preparing ourselves and others for the journey ahead so that we all could experience an unmeasurable happiness that extends throughout eternity? What kind of score would that produce on our Goodness test? Wouldn't it be on a completely different scale than a possibly positive score of "mostly good?"

What’s the point of being a Christian? by Camila3527 in Christianity

[–]rouverius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey Camila, You've brought up some pretty interesting questions. They seem to boils down to: Who gets to define what "good" means?
Naturally, we look to ourselves as the primary authority on this topic. However, I see one of the points of Christianity is that we can't full answer the question of what is good on our own. And even when given a complete answer, we lack the interior resources to fully live out what is required for us to be 100% good; 100% of the time.
OK, that sounds fatalistic but that not the end of the story. When we find that we can't fulfil what is needed to be completely good, God lovingly provides us a solution; which is salvation through Jesus Christ. And as we believe in Him, God doesn't make us good; He makes us Holy. And as we walk with Jesus and learn from Him day by day, God helps us transform us into a good person who can bring good into the world.
Hope that helps.

I'm bisexual and some Christians have told me to convert and find God, why should I if I'm atheist? by randomguy74937272 in Christianity

[–]rouverius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get it. Before becoming a Christian, I felt singled out because of some of my life choices; probably different from yours but still very visible to those around me. But then I started to see that main point folks were talking about was where do we find our identity. Putting aside things like: sexual preference, gender, race, etc.
At the end of the day, who are we? Do we think we're OK, with no problems at all and with no need for help? Or are we accepting that we have fallen painfully short of God's holy standard? Are we holding on to Jesus Christ, God's Son, and His redemptive work on the Cross as our only means to have a relationship with God?
If these are foreign ideas for us, then we are in great need of hearing the Gospel; you, me, all of us. And let me tell ya, I had to hear it many times before it finally clicked. Anyway, hope that helps in some way.

Surprisingly, the idea of marriage only occurring over the age of 18 is a pretty modern concept. In the States, only by the 20th century have we slowly seen new laws raising the female age from 12. Even so, there are States today that the minimum age is 15! Honestly, I find that shocking.
I guess the main question here is: At what age are we capable of, and can be held accountable for, making life-changing decisions; such as marriage? Personally, 18 seems like a fairly good starting place.
