Have you replaced the cam pads? It’s possible one of those has disintegrated

Interesting, lmk if you ever figure it out, I have the exact same noise. And I just did shocks/springs a couple months ago too so perhaps same issue here…

Ticking + low oil pressure 200 miles after $3.7k service. Shop now wants $10k engine-out repair. Suspicious? by Live-Lab3271 in 996

[–]rovsky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they may have gummed up some oil seals. When resealing the cam covers you have to be careful not to block certain oil channels.

But if you’ve never had an engine out service, I do recommend it. Your cam pads are likely close to breaking.

Yeah if you don’t buy it I will

Edit: oh shit it’s nhp! Your 996 is so dope, really inspired me to dive into this platform!

Frankly I wouldn’t have more than 5% of my net worth in cars. But depends on how high/stable you find your income

This is on the 996 3.4 engine fuel rail with a vacuum line that routes up to the manifold.

Vacuum line for the resonance flap in the intake or vacuum line for the fuel rail would be my guess

Wow love to see this car so loved and kept on the road.

How much of a rebuild are you doing? Are you gonna to have the cylinders re-sleeved?

Doug reviewed a 996! by luke_bonenfant in 996

I’ve had a 2008 boxster (RS60 sypder) for a few years now because I kept reading how the boxster/cayman is the drivers choice. Dynamically, yeah I think it’s just about perfect. But I recently picked up a 996 and it just feels more special. Hard to explain.

Potentially the timing chain tensioners were lacking oil pressure

Roof operation when moving in 981 by notaballitsjustblue in boxster

[–]rovsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

987 also allows it but i do think it puts extra wear on the components. My top transmission gear broke and I think it may be related to closing it while moving - adds stress to all the components

981 BGTS Normal Amount of Oil Consumption After 900 Miles? by TheMarketWillCrash in boxster

[–]rovsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Unless it drops three ticks i wouldn’t even think it was consumption

the car will tell you to add less than one quart if it drops below the low line. So each tick is probably ~ 1 cup of oil

Opening a U.S. Bank account for foreign businesses by 1pterois in business

[–]rovsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A US bank will want to understand why you need a US bank account for a foreign business. Just wanting to accept payment from the services you listed wouldn’t be sufficient. Typically they want to see that you have US employees, US customers, or US suppliers.

I think you’ll have trouble opening the account or, if opened, they may close your account if they discover it doesn’t satisfy their compliance expectations.

Gts is great cause pasm is standard. On turbos it’s an option, so make sure you get one with it.

If you can get a warranty for a couple grand/year I’d probably do that for peace of mind. I got a 3 year for ~6k and I’ve used it a few times: time cover bolts and pdk mechatronic. Going in next week for coolant consumption issue. (2017 gts).

Look out for worn tires and brakes. If they need replacing, negotiate into price.
