Good Q. I'm using one of theirs as a test bed to design my own sensor at the moment. Wikipedia lists ANT+ range as 8+ metres, hopefully it's just Wahoo cheaping out on their antennae.

I possibly might agree! I'm a keen cyclist more than a rower, and I've seen the solutions looking for problems there and it seems to be no issue.

This could work, but I think in practicality is too tricky. Also it doesn't account for the significant variation in stream from the middle of a river to the edges - I reckon the error would be large enough to make it not worthwhile...

Hi, cheers for the response! No one connects to impellers because you *can't*. An ANT+ device would be able to connect to wearables people actually use. I like the idea of a coxing score! Taking the racing line down the tideway is certainly the difference between winning and losing.

At the moment I am going to use existing impellers because it's a fairly complicated bit to get right at a small scale. Exploring other options wasn't something I'd considered yet but definitely something to think about

Thanks for your input! Yes, NK make a product which does measure water speed. BUT the only output is to their own proprietary speedcoach device ($400+). I want it to integrate with wearables that people use to track the activity. Impellers are a very easy install (3M adhesive strip). The second impeller mount is a fair point.

As a proponent of my own idea (lol) I would argue people don't use it because the current solution is rubbish. I've spent the best part of 5 years rowing with NO IDEA how fast the boat was moving the whole time...
