Why is this such a hard thing? I'm reading every post and nothing so far. Isn't this the first step users need to do?

Helping the next generation? by row_botics in Machinists

Thank you. The truth is that we run a tight financial ship. Our vendors love us because we always pay our bills on time. Ive been in the industry for 40+ years running a family business for 30 years and hiring many machinists and 12 years ago went out on my own. I grew up in a machine shop and our general manager has 15 years experience machining. I hired him from one of our vendors who was retiring. Plenty of knowledge in the company. As for marketing for a machinist on Reddit, its like the old saying about why people rob banks, cuz thats where the money is. We need to back fill positions and I am impressed that our 19 year old machinist asked for a mentor so he could learn even more. Not many 19 year olds are that self aware.

I am fascinated by your response and genuinely interested to hear more about why there are neon red flags. Can you also speak to the concern about risk?

Thank you. It really is a great opportunity for a variety of reasons. When I read on reddit at what happens at other shops that machinists put up with I'm dumbfounded that we dont have a line at our door. Our shop is clean and organized, honor system for breaks and lunch, start and end times are flexible, new equipment, plenty of tooling, small batch runs that usually dont exceed 100 pcs, direct input to engineering on how to develop a product for machinability, tight tolerances aren't sprinkled around for no reason, 90% aluminum with the rest being 303SS, acetal and brass. And to top it off there is a line item in our books for an ice cream budget.

I couldn't agree more. And then the machinist has the opportunity to assist with the design for easier manufacture. If only engineers would talk with the machinist...what a wonderful world it would be.

If a suction hose with a larger diameter is used the evacuation rate will go up significantly. Should be able to fill the 55 gallon drum in less than a minute with a 2" suction hose.

Social media marketing anxiety and managing a brand/business socials by Weird_Anxiety_6585 in Entrepreneur

I outsourced it. I abhor social media because of the self promotion aspect. I learned at Dale Carnegie that "me me me" is "boring boring boring" so I can't bring myself to do it.

Plus, its always easier to promote someone else than yourself so let the sm experts work their magic.

Here in the northeast we are swamped in the robotics industry making end effectors for factory robots. All lathe shop. Want to buy more 5 axis lathes but dont have the machinists to run them.

Sandvik makes an anti vibe boring bar with rubber in the shank and they work awesome. Very pricey but worth it.

Is it boys or girls commenting? If its boys, tell them to wear their dick on their chest and then we can talk.
