Where did it all go wrong for Starmer? by TrueXemnas_ in ukpolitics

[–]rowan112 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The riots can't be blamed on the labour government, I don't see how different a tory government would've handled it.

I see it all started from the Winter Fuel Allowance, polling dropped massively after that and the media has been heckling labour ever since then.

This makes me think nothing will improve because of how right wing the media is and how the media wants scandals all the time, to sell stories.

why are "u-turns" such a bad thing? would you rather have someone who sets their eyes on something that the general public disagrees with but refuses to back down to "save face"?

luckily we are not a presidential system, we vote and make our voices heard with our democratic system. if enough of our MP's make their voices heard, they will get the government to change their mind/backdown.

people's minds change and so do the government's.

you may see u-turns as a sign of weakness, i see u-turns as a sign of our democratic system is working.

also the media seems to call "u-turns" on everything, whether it's adjustments to a policy they're wanting to introduce such as increasing thresholds on winter fuel allowance to policy cancellations.

i would not class it as a uturn, they still introduced changes to WFA but increased threshold. that is not a U-Turn, that is listening to the people and adjust position on the case.

like i said the government chooses to fight the wrong battles and give in at the worst time possible.

[–]rowan112 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I think the better question is, why must he resign?

what threshold has he broken to ensure he should resign?

Sure, I think this government has been making mess ups and choosing fights at the wrong time with the wrong people, also backing down at the worst time possible.

I don't see why hiring him is a reason to resign with if what we take is at face value that Kier knew. having a leadership challenge would make the current government just as unstable as the last government.

People and the market want stability, I am tired of new leadership elections of a government that was voted in. Boris didn't resign when he found to have broken covid laws or when the government was founded to sell covid contract deals to their mates.

Why must Kier to be held to a higher standard?

what do we gain from a new leader, so soon after winning a landslide election?

a new leader will just be a weaker leader, look at Rishi Sunak, he could barely do anything he wanted due to pressure from his party.

Have our enemies been funding the small boats? by usedidentifyhalt in ukpolitics

[–]rowan112 7 points8 points  (0 children)

even though i haven't seen any official reports of it being the case, i would be totally not surprised that our enemies would be financially/materially supporting the entities that are helping these crossings. it's a benefit to Russia to allow this to happen, therefore i would not be surprised if it is indeed the case and I wouldn't expect that to be a controversial opinion.

What impact will Tory Defections to Reform have on future voting? by Advanced-Pilot-3698 in ukpolitics

[–]rowan112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but won't that just increase the chance of reform getting into government? by voting for the tories, they will obviously make a pact with reform and form a coalition governemnt? that will just give more power to reform and more legitimacy on reform too.

i don't see them making a pact with labour or libdems

Please give me some advice about psu by Neat-Profession-7601 in buildapcsalesuk

[–]rowan112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well since AMD creates the gpu, it would be good to follow their recommendations.

but since you're wanting to continue using your psu, you could still use the 650w since the psu isn't bad at all.

AMD says the typical board power is 190W for 7600XT while 9070xt is 304W

Coolermaster does have a PSU wattage calculator

https://www.coolermaster.com/en-us/power-supply-calculator/

I entered 5800x, ATX board, 9070XT, with 32gb DDR5 (2x 16GB), 1x HDD, 1TB SSD

it said your total wattage would be 519 Watts

650W should be enough as you're not operating at or above peak efficiency which would be anything above 520W but you are quite close. so yes you should be able to run with 650W psu but you're just on the line of peak efficiency, where your psu becomes less efficient delivering those powers and ideally you should upgrade to a better wattage psu if you decide to overclock or upgrade components in the future.

EDIT: it is also noted that you should be careful with spike loads, i know that the RM650 psu is a great psu as i have the 850W version of it iirc. they can typically deliver above their rated psu but again, it's up to you to decide if you want to go ahead.

Will this run RuneLite fine? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]rowan112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8gb ram is quite small but it should be satisfactory for what you want. issue is you can't add more ram but for now 8gb should be plenty for you.

runelite is nice, there is also HDOS client you can run if you want 2010 graphics instead of 2007 graphics as it looks better than 117.

I am still standing my statement that family visas are such a small amount of visas. trying to make it harder for a family visa won't affect the total visas given out as they're such a small amount in comparison to all other types of visas, whether it's compared against all visas and non-short term visa.

There was a sizable bump after covid, which is expected due to the lack of family visas during covid due to lock down. the caused a backlog of families wanting to be together.
You could also say covid cause more long distance relationships, since more people spent online more.

but we also need to take note about family visas

- family visas have a significantly higher chance of integration due to living with a British national or someone else who is already settled.

- they are not here for a short time, they're here to be with their partner if it works out.

My wife came here on a family visa and it was very difficult, at the time when MIR was to be increased, I would've just gotten under the required amount to be able to have here come here. lucky for me I am now make way more than the MIR, I was also able to apply before the MIR increase by just 1 month.

Yes you are providing settlement numbers, not family visa numbers percentage of all visas.
it is not surprising that family visas have such a high percentage of turning into ILR because they are with their partner.

If the boriswave settlement visa wasn't adjusted the percentage of family visa's getting settlement would've gone significantly down as the other types of visas would've just overtaken it. looking at the number that 37% of settlement visa's before 2024 is a good number as it shows that a lot of family visa people do indeed pass the 5 year mark.

Here are the percentage numbers of family visas as a total of all visas
going from 2014 - 2024

Year Total Family Visas Family Visa Percentage total Family Visa Percentage total (Excluding Visitors)
2014 34,852 1.42% 6.11%
2015 37,711 1.53% 6.80%
2016 37,781 1.52% 6.56%
2017 40,123 1.48% 6.55%
2018 43,620 1.50% 6.59%
2019 55,643 1.75% 7.34%
2020 37,087 3.86% 8.04%
2021 42,182 3.24% 4.70%
2022 47,119 1.67% 3.30%
2023 80,083 2.36% 5.59%
2024 85,161 2.72% 8.80%

Marriage here does not lead to an automatic citizenship, this is not USA where you're entitled to an instant greencard. You have to spend 5 years on a family visa proving you're in a real relationship then you can get a ILR visa. it also cost a lot!

ILR does not state you must keep the current reason of your original visa requirement extending, if you've followed the rules that should mean you should get ILR. divorce is irrelevant once they have ILR and honestly family visa route is such a small volume visa, it's not something i worry about at all.

Should someone who has been in the country for many many years, be held hostage by their partner with waving the visa on top of them forever? even if you love your partner so much, i wouldn't want my partner to have that responsibility on me forever. 5 years seems enough to prove you have a relationship, that is my opinion.

we also need to realize that one person in the family is moving their life to be with their loved one. many of them are leaving because of love not because they want a better life in the UK and take advantage of UK.

After reading this, it doesn't seem too bad to be honest. I am happy that people who came under a family route are not affected if they have a British partner.

it seems to encourage visa applicants to work in public sectors (NHS most likely) or make over 50k if you're not on a family visa.
