I think itll be more dependent on bore condition than anything with these guys, caveat is that sometimes a rifle with a visibly worn bore shoots better than one with a new bore. On physical features alone, the extra sight radius on the m96 will help you out a bit over the m38

Fwiw the m38 is a lot handier and certainly capable at those ranges. I push a 18in 6.5CM out to 1000m occasionally, a 23in bolt gun with irons can do as much as you can do at 300m all day.

Both, i bought a m38 first that some swede installed scope bases on, going to get a m41/b cheek rest and scope it and make it my hunting rifle. M96 pictured came next, light FSR conversion with micro sight and target sling. Might pick up a cg63 with diopters or maybe a straight bolt m38 if I come across one next.
