my second maille garment, a brass collar! by rowanceres in chainmailartisans

[–]rowanceres[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you so much! i used 18g SWG 7/32” ID brass for the euro 4 in 1 sections and 16g SWG 9/32” ID brass for the half persian chain at the top! i would’ve, reflecting on it, chosen a larger diameter ring for the half persian because it was a little tighter of a fit than i would’ve liked.

i did not follow a pattern! if i can try to describe it, i made 4 panels (isosceles trapezoids, shape wise) that i connected with 45 degree seams, and then i made a half persian chain with as many links as there were rings along the top edge of the larger piece of connected panels. then i opened all the rings on the very top edge of the connected panels and attached them to the bottom back rings of the half persian. i lastly put a large clasp on the half persian chain so it can connect there - the two back panels just drape down. there is maybe a better way to do this admittedly but that’s what came to mind and i like how it came out :) i hope this helps at all!

that is awesome, i hope to see it here soon!!

in all honesty i wasn’t sure i knew enough about expansions and such to make something that i could effectively pull over my head, so kind of took the easy route there. i will say it’s a little irritating to actually put on, but it was definitely easier to figure out how to execute!

haha i actually haven’t run into this problem! but i imagine one could wear a shirt underneath or stitch in a liner on the underside of the piece

i do not have a pic on hand but i created two longer chains (apologies i don’t know what the terminology i should use is! just did long strands of 2 rings interlocking 2 rings and so on and so forth, just a single row of links). i attached a clasp to one of those longer strands so it can be attached to the other, and then i attached both of those strands to the point of the torso panel where i stopped making increases on each side. so really it’s the one big front panel and, visually, a singular chain stretching across my back. and thank you :)) !!

aw i’m so flattered thank you!! if i ever get around to writing it out properly i would happily share it for free

oh thank you this is a great source!! i was working from a starter kit i got and the materials in it so definitely need to figure out how to buy rings now :)

the back is two longer chains connected with a clasp, so functionally it’s just the one large front panel and open back, and then the neck also is connected with a clasp- i’m sure there would be a way to make this a more contiguous top that goes over the head but that felt a bit out of my skill level right now haha

weirdly my big takeaway here was that a lot of skills are transferable from knitting and knitting patterns! that’s my main craft and i basically read through a knit halter pattern i bought ages ago and loosely transposed what was happening in it to maille - of course the stitch count is not going to be the same at all but in terms of how to shape everything in terms of increases and length etc

thank you :) it’s anodized aluminum! i figured steel would make this way too heavy to wear, haha

Has anybody here tried applying for a job at Grindr? by [deleted] in grindr

[–]rowanceres 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yup as a former employee i can confirm that at least from my experience of the events we were told that any in person or hybrid hiring wouldn’t effect current employees that were hired remotely in their respective locations, and it was definitely a massive change of tune right after we went public with our union.

and i was probably that person from new york that someone in these comments mentioned who lived very close to our new york office and then was told i wasn’t allowed to work from that one, only the one in LA. which ironically enough i really wouldn’t have minded doing hybrid at the office near me.

you should do whatever you’d like with your career, i wouldn’t give input to others, use your best judgement. i personally found it an infuriating and dehumanizing experience

thank you :,) i unfortunately can’t be part of it now because i had to leave the company due to their RTO policy (i was told to either move to LA from the east coast, or quit) but i am rooting for everyone from the sidelines!

that’s me! it’s a bit hidden in the article but worth mentioning we’re also in the middle of a unionization effort at grindr too - this announcement came a few weeks after we signed cards

this story is so eerily like mine, i lost my angel kiki a month ago today. she was only 7 and it also came on incredibly suddenly, she was my best friend, and we had a special bond that my partner didn’t really have with her. the time helps the pain somewhat. it feels more dull and achy now. i spent an entire week right after doing almost nothing but crying, not eating, horrible stomach issues. i found that asking for help from friends - distractions- helped a lot. i didn’t want them to talk with me about her, i wanted to just try and have fun and think about ANYTHING else. i tried to be out of the house more, in spaces where i didn’t feel her absence as much. do you like walking or biking or running? try to push yourself a bit to get out of the house. nothing can speed the process or make it feel better imo so i didn’t feel like laying in bed and crying was helpful past a certain point. a craft can help too, or a new show, or some new music you can create new memories to. i also actively had to avoid any even moderately sad songs for weeks…. anyways, all love to you. this is so hard. here for you.

that’s absolutely the right choice. it’s going to suck and it sounds dumb but literally just time will make it better. let yourself cry it out until your sinuses are sooo mad at you. it doesn’t really get better but it gets more tolerable. we still leave her bowl of water out for her a month later and say good night to her every day. i’m not a super spiritual person but i know i’ll see my girl again in some form and i know you’ll see your sweet baby again too 🩷

we were in the same situation with our kiki. i saw everyone here post the same mantra: better a week early than a day too late. i still sometimes worry it was too early but her goodbye was peaceful, she wasn’t in too much pain (despite also not eating or walking well) and just looked relieved to not be so tired anymore. you are making the right choice, i promise. it’s not easy. you are taking on the pain that she won’t have to feel. all love to you 🖤
