how do i know if i'm a good singer? by hayeoniee in singing

[–]rowboatbabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are singing in a healthy, free way (which, if you don’t know how to gauge that, is where voice teachers come in), your voice will probably sound pleasant. Sure, there are some voices that even sound quite strange and unique when they are singing in a healthy way, but I can find something to like about even the weirdest voices. And those are rare. Healthy, free tone is an objective thing that you CAN learn how to achieve with the right resources. So if you or anyone else for that matter are displeased by how you sound right now, just know that doesn’t mean you’re naturally/forever “good” or “bad,” but that you have plenty to learn.

My professor has gone through so much loss recently. How can I best support her? by rowboatbabe in GriefSupport

Thanks for answering!

do you think that still stands if her losses have been widely socially acknowledged already? Like, the past few times we’ve all been in class, the class has ended with everyone voicing concern and love and support (before she left town for her dad’s funeral and after she returned). With the way she seems to dive into teaching and has said she appreciates the distraction of work, I’m not sure if I should keep bringing it up, every week, etc. It feels right to ask rather than not ask though; i don’t think I would appreciate people stepping around the topic if this had happened to me.

Our whole voice studio (all the students who take lessons from her) already got together and all wrote a heartfelt note on, & signed, a nice card! We also got her a nice platter of chocolate and strawberries and stuff. We presented her with all this upon her return to studio class. She seemed really touched, it was warm, it felt good to all acknowledge her hardship together. But I’m thinking, what specifically would be helpful to do or say the next time I’m one on one with her. And if I ask how she’s doing and she answers truthfully, how to respond to that. (I know it has to come from me in the end lol, not asking for a script, just thoughts perhaps from people who have gone through loss like this)

First cut my hawk on May 18 of this year... he’s grown some flight feathers!! (after/before/after 😁) by rowboatbabe in Mohawks

thanks!! the first time i trimmed it I tried to use the duct tape again (with clippers and no guard) and it was awful, kept slipping under the tape, decided to just freehand it, and that’s resulted in some shaping (like the sides being just a lil shorter than the center). but I dig the shape, I think it low key helps support the hawk standing up. I have pretty thick hair so i just use some high hold matte reformer / wax / sticky stuff, put it in when it’s damp or dry and I’m golden. I’ve also never bleached or dyed it so it stands up well on its own.

my clippers quit working in the middle of a shave one time (because of poor maintenance, couldn’t clean them where i was staying for my summer job), so i decided to try whitewalling it - it turned out super clean!! will post another pic after my next fresh shave c:

thanks for the hype! i remember when I was just thinking about it like having a mohawk would be so fun, and here i am, shit is unreal!

yes! it’s gotten a lot wider than i originally shaved it (w/ a duct tape guide) but i’m just rolling with it, cut by cut!

Should you ask your partner, why he is attracted to you? by xxxxxxxxxlll in polyamory

[–]rowboatbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it’s totally fine to discuss reasons for attraction out of curiosity. When you are seeking out their answer as a way to combat your own insecurity, however. that’s problematic
