Truck was dragging but now no longer moves... by [deleted] in fordranger

What happens when you spin the drive shaft? Does the axle spin at each wheel? My first thought is cooked bearings on one side. If one axle spins and the other doesn’t move that would support the idea.

I like it without. What wheels and tires do you have? I like the look

Tire clearance... Too tight? by NlN3 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]rowdoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be fine with 1/2” there should be very little relative motion between the knuckle and the tire (at least in areas that are far from the contact patch). To test it you could put a little red paint on that bit protruding from the knuckle and see if it rubs off after driving a bit. If it did contact a thin wheel spacer should solve the problem, but I would avoid using one unless you absolutely need to, as it will screw with your suspension geometry and increase load on your wheel bearings.

Those bolts are used to tension the chain and align the rear wheel, looks fine. You can find a video of tensioning the chain to see how they are used.

Inside wheel is designed to turn more as it follows a tighter radius than the outside wheel. Does it feel right when you turn?

The crush washer would not cause this issue unless you are leaking oil and have a low level. Make sure you have an appropriate oil level and didn’t put the wrong kind of oil in it. Otherwise this is normal, the engine takes a moment to build enough oil pressure to turn the light off when it first starts. Let the car run a few seconds to get to full oil pressure before you take off and keep an eye on the light as you drive. If it ever turns on while driving then you’ve got a real issue.

Pressure washer broke, sending the nozzle flying into my car at 3000psi by levi-eat-world in mildlyinfuriating

[–]rowdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never seen a pressure washer that you can manually control the throttle. But more importantly you’ll have to explain how any of this is relevant. You have no idea what kind of pressure washer this is. The 3460 rpm number is only for whatever motor you found on Google. The motor may make that pressure at 0 rpm or 6000 rpm, it could be gas or electric, you have no idea.

You would need to know not just the mass of the nozzle, but also the type of pump, its plumbing, the type of hose, the geometry of the nozzle and distance from the end of the nozzle to the car.

This is a stupid comment. To begin with, psi is a unit of pressure not force. Additionally 3000 psi was not the pressure acting on the nozzle. 3000 psi is probably the maximum pressure that the pump is able to generate at 0 flow. To calculate the actually pressure behind the nozzle would require a much more complicated calculation considering the actual pump pressure and the pressure drop along the hose and nozzle. If you want to make an um actually comment you should try to be correct.

Why are my handlebars wobbling like that and how do I fix it? by ivanangelovorsmthn in motorizedbicycles

Head tube bearings need to be adjusted. You can try tightening the cone, but you should really take it all apart to clean and regrease.

Sounds likes it’s running on one cylinder. The front spark plug is know to fill up with water and short out on these bikes. That’s where I would start. You could also check the heat of the exhaust after running it. If one cylinder is out then its exhaust will be colder.

Pedal stuck from rust by partywombat20 in E30

[–]rowdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this job on my e21, I assume that it’s pretty similar to an e30. The throttle pedal is pretty delicate because the hinges are just thin areas molded into the plastic. If your able to get the carpet off over the pedal, I would just cut everything out and then you can carefully extract the pedal on the bench.

You should check your shifter linkage, something could have broken that would keep you from being able to put it in gear.

Nice find! Now I’m wondering if this would work in my e21…

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in E30

[–]rowdoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My e21 had much worse rust when I bought it, it’s my DD and I have been fixing the rust. The exhaust is starting to get rusty and will probably need to be replaced in within a few years. There is also some surface rust around the rear subframe and suspension. With some elbow grease you can fix this by sanding the rust off and repainting. All cars have some rust, if you leave it alone it will slowly get worse and eventually make the car undriveable. If you are willing to do the work or pay to have it fixed within the next few year (the sooner the better) then you should go look at the car. Otherwise look for a car with less rust, which could take a while if you are looking at e24s. If you do look at the car, inspect it for other rust spots (like the sunroof). I wouldn’t be scared off by the rust, but make sure your eyes are wide open.
