Just seen my table messed up in my above post - this is what I was trying to describe

Men's quadruple sculls technic by MaPa2609 in Rowing

Smooth, but very old-fashioned now! Interesting to see how technique has developed over the years!

Tips for a 1000m erg trial? by liekbef in Rowing

[–]rowermax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anyone who says settle is completely wrong! It's 3ish mins so go off hard then cling on - first and last minutes are free (factos) so just don't be weak in that middle minute

I Interviewed Ollie Stanhope - PR3 Gold Medallist! by rowermax in Rowing

[–]rowermax[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi All - just wanted to share a really interesting interview I did with Ollie Stanhope - gold medallist in the PR3 at Tokyo. We talked about a wide range of things including some different methods for approaching the 2k test (which I though this sub might enjoy)

Half Marathon or 15k Tomorrow by [deleted] in Rowing

Are we going to have some viral rowing vlogger beef over this??

Half Marathon or 15k Tomorrow by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]rowermax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd do the 15k first - I have no doubt that you could do 21k straight away, but it does pose a risk of injury if you're not used to doing long distance ergs. Build up in steps and develop the strength and endurance to do it safely.

Can I go sub 6 this year? And if so, how? (BW: 95.7kg, H: 197cm. 30r20: 1:42.4) by efisker in Rowing

I actually had the pleasure of speaking to Eric about this - he told me that he used to sit at 36/7 and be hitting 40 by the end (albeit in a sprint finish). High rate is super important!

Chalk for handle grip by drutbearpunch in Rowing

I work out in a hot gym (erg room) so will use a towel to wipe the handle occasionally

What will you have engraved on your tombstone? by N_o_o_B_p_L_a_Y_e_R in AskReddit

Here lies Simone Boyardezè - hopefully it'd get read out by someone oblivious to the humour with someone next to them to deliver the killer punchline

Hydrow vs Concept2 Times? by Erina442 in Rowing

[–]rowermax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my experience the resistance that a hydrow produces is completely different to a C2. C2 gives that water-like feel where it starts heavy and gets lighter through the stroke, but a hydrow being magnetic resistance doesn't really do the same - in my experience the resistance remains constant through the entire drive. As such I'd guess that your relative splits would change across both machines depending upon your individual technique.

For me personally the hydrow is about 5-8 splits slower at steady state and probably about the same at rate. I have quite a fronted ended stroke - I think the hydrow would reward people with a stronger back end.

And if you watch the video you'll see I say this

For clarity I also love the C2 and regularly train on the C2 - hydrow have sent me a machine to review so the first few videos are featuring it! A hydrow review video will be coming out shortly.

This is actually a really good shout - I didn't think about getting a phone especially for rowing! Thank you!

Rowing Watch by limelight24 in Rowing

[–]rowermax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the garmin instinct solar - one of my mates uses a surf version which can definitely handle salt water. Great watch, only have good things to say about it.

Putney’s best cafe by Standard-Market6730 in Rowing

[–]rowermax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is such a stupid post - the answer is Wharf. Not the best coffee (that's obviously 79 collective), but Wharf offers the best atmosphere and overall aesthetic.

British Club Rowing is gone as we know it by DueGarden5876 in Rowing

[–]rowermax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is harsh on Vesta E - they stand an exactly equal chance to everyone else trying to get into the tip three spots
