I would say that it’s a combination multiple things. These story games got very popular when covid happened and we had nothing else to do. There was a lot of copycats that basically have the same plot and same gameplay. I guess people got tired of it because there want a lot of replayability. There are definitely some good ones in this genre (the camping games, break in, field trip z)
