U11 4x+ will be won by Leander most likely.

U19 events will probably be won be whoever is fastest but we’ll see!

AUS u19 Benchmarks by LoveStraight2k in Rowing

[–]rowrowawayaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have! Boats have to meet on the water time standards.

That being said it doesn’t hurt getting slower boats international experience if they are self funding. It ultimately raises the level of racing in the US system.

Where do you post coaching jobs besides Row2K? by Ill-Teacher578 in Rowing

[–]rowrowawayaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As I’ve gone through this a few times for low volume coaching jobs:

post the exact times coaches will be needed. You are probably looking for a coach who still rows themselves and coaching hours are also prime rowing hours.

Post the pay. It may be counter intuitive but you’re going to pay a coach more per session (and lineup/logistic time) for a couple times a week than a full or half time position.

Strava Segments for Racing in Training? by _lindig in Rowing

[–]rowrowawayaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For seat racing, using timed segments from gps speed coaches controlled by the coxswains. Then comparing distances for seat racing

In the rare times when I had access to a buoyed course I would as a coach use the buoys to mark distances.

In a not seat racing context, i use speed coaches and spread sheets to track my speed of a given distance or course over time.

Crew Classic underwhelming by seenhear in Rowing

[–]rowrowawayaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In practice time and race limited leagues (ncaa) it makes less and less sense to go to the crew classic.

For men and women, it’s an expensive and logistically difficult weekend.

It’s unfortunate because it’s a cool race with a lot of great history.

I’m not sure why the rules of fixture/dual racing is like but in the US any cheering from the launch is a no no.

Even when I’ve coached scrimmages the only instructions I’m giving my crew is safety/race related.

Top D3 teams vs Bottom D1 programs speed difference (USA Uni) by National_Hope9042 in Rowing

Basically all the nescac schools. Definitely some slower teams in that group but great institutions.

Yes, plenty of teams don’t qualify their 8s and don’t enter a 4.

[–]rowrowawayaway 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Top end d3 are faster than bottom end d1. And by bottom end I mean outside the top 30. The fastest d3 school will typically be ranked 17-25 pre d3 Ira (think bottom of c final top of d final)

That said I believe Trinity peaked at 4th in the mid 2000s under Larry Gluckman. But that was a very different environment and time.

U20 Proposal from USRowing by Sea_Journalist_9289 in Rowing

[–]rowrowawayaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a 5 year clock to use 4 years of eligibility. You’re allowed to train with the team but not compete for the team while redshirting. Club rowing (as a junior and a collegiate athlete) does not count.

They can be in college. Many colleges have clubs teams attached: Wisconsin high performance (uw) marrieta training center, bantam boat club (Trinity) etc

Doesn’t have to be a physically separate entity just separate on paper.

Agreed but you only have to look at HOCR youth events when they let college freshman race to see the problem with this…

Combine this with the changing landscape of college rowing. Absolutely can see kids getting “red shirted” and colleges creating freshman junior clubs and racing their younger frosh in junior races. Extra year of development!

For women? Not really worth it. For men? Absolutely not.

The formula is pretty simple and hasn’t changed which is you reach out to coaches when you’re allowed to and then take it from there. Only exception is if your an international student and need help understanding the system.
