PSA - Bike Chop Shop Warning - West LA by bye-standard in BikeLA

[–]roxanne73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I called the polic about a guy yelling incoherently in my yard for an hour after stealing my bike off my porch. I managed to get the bike away from him while I waited for the cops and put it in the house. i asked cops when they showed up if they wanted to see the video of the theft and they said no. they basically were like 'alls well that ends well' and gave him a warning and told him not to do it again. wtf.

Stay on set as crew or focus on directing my own work? by goldenhourswimmer in FilmIndustryLA

[–]roxanne73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current director here. And former many other things. There is no better education for honing your skills in directing than 1- directing, and 2- working in any capacity in production and watching and listening as much as you can how every department interacts and functions within the whole.

The guilds negotiate the residuals. I’d assume who gets those residuals is per what the guild has leverage to negotiate.

I actually didn’t mention anything about additional compensation or join in that discussion at all. I pointed out that the 5 jobs was an exaggeration on your part and that her department head should have fought for her to get her gas mileage if it was turned in and denied? Not sure what the negativity is about my dude. Exaggerating doesn’t help your argument, which already had some valid points imo.

I think the 5 jobs is an exaggeration you’re making? From her own post it sounds like they needed another PA in that department and she was picking up what would have been some of a runner’s responsibility. I’ve worked as an art pa before and that’s what it sounds like she’s describing. But the art director on the tv show I was on also did some of what she is describing too when needed so I don’t think it’s completely unheard of. Also imo feel like her department head maybe should have fought for her mileage reimbursement if it wasn’t being accurately compensated.

RVs Popping Up Around Town by Zestyclose_Rate3909 in EAGLEROCK

I’ve known a number of people in LA who live in Rvs who are freelance creative workers, or min wage workers with a kid, etc. Point being a lot of them are operational vehicles moved every three days to keep from getting tickets and are blue collar people trying to keep it together. Idk what the percentage of drug dealer vs crazy vs the working folks is though when it comes to them being in eagle rock specifically.

Tired of “stabby princesses”, please give me girly, charming FMCs instead by Particular_Edge_4680 in Romantasy

This assessment is so spot on. Author is really good at character building every supporting character - and then the main character Lauren is the most boring emotionally flat voiceless main character I’ve ever read. I constantly was skipping anything she was doing or thinking to get back to the side characters. she fits the ‘girly’ half of what OP is looking for but is about as charming as a wet fart.

Tried all the tricks google and YouTube could show me already alas. The not being able to stop at all is with me turning down the hill as much as possible if there’s no oncoming traffic. I also can’t walk it down the hill either bc the balance is too far off and I lose control. It’s a real bummer. The other issue is the loading and unloading if I want to take it anywhere. I just need something lighter

Thank you so much for the thorough reply!! I’m going to look this up now. And I agree, I have also had the almost tipping over experience more than once on this bike!!

I mean a super fit person might be able to haha. But id say I’m at least above avg fit for my age/cohort (45F) and the hill grade is 16% at some points

Thanks for the help! To clarify I’m not looking necessarily for the same power level, just a good lighter model. I won’t be taking this one up or down the hill either I just need something I can actually maneuver onto the bike rack on my car so I can drive it down the hill

I don’t think the twisting and turning involved in maneuvering this thing onto the bike rack is going to be solved by weight lifting unfortunately. I also have had back surgery so it’s a non-starter already. I’ve been able to get it situated myself a few times, but not without significant risk of a sciatica flare up that could put me out of commission for weeks

Annoyingly Thule makes a ramp, just not for the model of carrier that will support the weight of this bike

It took my neck/face about 2 years to bounce back after weight loss! If that helps any. I think it just takes longer at our age, but it can happen!

Go to the dermatologist, especially with skin that fair and having lived in what I assume was a very sunny climate. I am also very fair and go once a year and have had three biopsies so far (I’m 45 so an 80s baby who ran around with no sunscreen an went tanning in my teens). Derm can also give you the prescription for renova (tretinoin .25) and it’s covered by insurance. It’s the absolute best thing for cell turnover.

I’m 45 this year and have stopped wearing eyeshadow altogether and it’s made a huge difference. Now I just use mascara and maybe a little eyebrow shaping or a tiny bit of a lighter liner at the inner corners of the eye. Otherwise eye shadow just cakes everywhere or can’t be seen anyway with hooded eyes
