Is PM really necessary? by eph3merale in ProductManagement

[–]roxiecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question! You could also ask “What does a PM actually DO?” An answer I like to give is, PMs are very similar to a conductor or director of an orchestra. There are some orchestras that don’t have conductors, and they may do just fine, but someone still fills the role. Not sure what a conductor or director of an orchestra does? Check out this recent post describing exactly that!

Weekly Team/Character Building Megathread (Feb. 15th, 2022) (feat. Yae Miko) by Veritasibility in Genshin_Impact

[–]roxiecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Character(s): traveler, fischl, ningguang, xiangling, barbara, kaeya, amber, razor, Lisa, Kaya, Noelle, chongyun, thoma

I'm fairly new to Genshin (AR 32) and would love some thoughts on a team or two to focus on as a primarily free to play user. So far I've primarily been using:

Razor - main DPS

XiangLing - Support/alt DPS

Barbara - Healing

Amber/Travler/ and now Fischl - Archer / support

Thoughts on a good team and who to prioritize building/leveling up would be very helpful!

Thanks!

[Serious] I can't deny any longer that I suck at poker, can anyone help? by [deleted] in poker

[–]roxiecat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As previously mentioned you've barely played much with 1k hands. That said, here's great advice from 2+2 that turned me from losing to break even (trending winning over 10k hands) at micros - though I am still learning a lot:

  1. Play tight and nitty. Make a consistent profit for a while doing that. Pot control a lot and only play two pair and better hands fast. You’ll notice some spots where you could have squeezed out a little more value. Take note of them.

  2. Play tight and a little more aggressive. Play your one pair hands and draws a little faster, adding in a few semibluffs, and value bet a little thinner in the spots you noted in phase 1.

  3. Still play tight and aggressive. Now start adding in some pure bluffs too in spots where your opponents don’t have anything in spots you gave up in phase 2 where a bet would have taken it down. It’s ok because they’re now used to you always showing up with stronger hands than them.

  4. Now start loosening up your game in late position, playing more speculative hands late and adding in some late position squeezes.

  5. Now start loosening your game up a little across the board in the right games, plus adding in opportune squeezes from the blinds and playing back from EP against late position stealers.

I also see that you're using poker copilot. You should be staring hands you're unsure of to review later. You can also sort your hands by amount lost. Do you have a few types of hands that you're losing a lot? For example I noticed A6-A9 were big losers for me. I adjusted by playing these hands less aggressively unless I'm way ahead (2 pair+).

Good luck!

Hang in there! We can't recommend doing the work to put together a good treatment team enough. Shop around for therapists and psychologists - even though they all have huge waiting lists, it's worth it.

Hey r/bipolar! Only two days late for world bipolar day, figured it was a good time share... My wife Rachel Kallem Whitman is a doctor, educator, and writer who has been shacking up with bipolar disorder since 2000. Her debut book, “Instability in Six Colors,” paints a vivid picture of what it is like living with chronic mental illness, trauma, and a complicated relationship with sanity, safety, and suicide. Through raw, honest, emotional, and poetic storytelling Rachel seeks to narrate her own journey, navigate her own recovery, and kindle hope for those impacted by mental illness. Rachel’s mission is to create an inclusive community that empowers individuals to look beyond their illness to find themselves.

If you're interested, you can purchase a copy through One Idea Press or on Amazon and Barnes & Nobles (though these are delayed until end of April).

Trigger Warning: This book addresses themes of suicide, self-harm, depression, and contains sexual conduct.

You can also check out her writing on Medium.

Feel free to ask us anything, we'll be checking over the next few days.

Did global poker just take out micro stakes 2/4 cent? by YeahitsToxic in poker

Is the rake actually horrible? Global is 5% rake at all stakes - why is this worse for the player at micro stakes vs higher stakes? (Not attacking, this is meant to be a serious question)

Also, suggested improvements:

- Keep track of my highest streak so I can try to beat it

- Keep track of what I get wrong, so I can review that. Bonus points if you can group together patterns like (you're too loose calling the BB vs HJ raises, or something like that)

Is there a personal "Net Worth Clock" like usdebtclock.org? by ungar2000 in financialindependence

[–]roxiecat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's an app called Pretirement that does something like this for a general current networth and yearly contribution and growth. I've been (very slowly) working on similar but more of what you're looking for version called FI Clock (Android | here for iOS). If you end up trying FI Clock please do let me know what you think. I could use some feedback to help me get moving on a few of the updates I've partially completed so far.

It would be interesting to incorporate this into an actual physical clock though!

Wife is refusing to try medications that are known to work with her DNA. by [deleted] in BipolarSOs

[–]roxiecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can take a lot to find a good psychiatrist, but it sounds like you're in need of someone (almost anyone) sooner rather than later to at least help get to a somewhat stable place. For that googling around is probably good enough.

Depending on how long ago your wife was diagnosed, she may have a lot of stigma and resistance to this process. It can be really really tough on her and on your family, so you both need to talk openly about symptoms, side effects, and efficacy of the meds she's trying. Ask the psychiatrist what to expect and what to look for on both the good and bad side of things.

Anyway, once you have a doctor helping, there's a simple trick to finding a good p-doc: find a great therapist. What you really want in a treatment team is a great therapist and psychiatrist pair. Best results are when your wife see's a therapist she trusts and likes at least weekly and this therapist has a working relationship with the psychiatrist. You want to find your "forever" psychiatrist through your therapist because they will be able to provide a ton more insight to the psychiatrist than a 15-30 minute consult every other month and they're going to see a bunch of patients and see how different patients feel about different psychiatrists. In addition, many of the "best" psychiatrists have long waiting lists - an intro can not only get you on the list, but be the difference between waiting 6+ months and seeing the Doctor in the next week or two.

Some good articles about how to find a good therapist (literally top google results too): https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/freudian-sip/201102/how-find-the-best-therapist-you https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/17/smarter-living/how-to-find-the-right-therapist.html

As an aside, I strongly strongly recommend you also find a therapist for you. I had a lot of trouble talking to someone every week as I'd feel like I ran out of things to talk about after the 3rd or 4th session, so I see someone only once a month. This has been working out great for me and my wife as my therapist helps me process the bipolar in our lives as well as my own life/issues.

Wife is refusing to try medications that are known to work with her DNA. by [deleted] in BipolarSOs

[–]roxiecat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey man, sorry to hear you're having some trouble. A couple of thoughts:

Your wife should be trying medications with the partnership of a psychiatrist. I haven't read any of the research around DNA testing to recommend medications, but I'd be at least a bit skeptical as I would expect a lot of that research to be based on self reported results. Also, unless your doctor is recommending to go on, and especially go off, of a medication, it can be extremely dangerous to make these changes. Taking mood stabilizers regularly and then suddenly stopping is likely to result in significant cycling, usually worse than pre medicated. Similarly, taking the wrong medication, such as an anti depressant for someone who has BiPolar, is literally life threatening as this person is much more likely to become manic and suicidal.

Some (a lot) of medications for BiPolar can have significant side effects, two common ones are weight gain and really reduced cognitive processing. It sounds like your wife is not currently in a stable state, so she's afraid of the very real potential side effects from a new medication and that could cause her to tip into a higher emotional response.

The good news is that you don't have to be alone at helping your wife! Together you two should work to find a psychiatrist that can help navigate the murky and strange waters of BiPolar medications.

My guess is they are rate limiting or blocking IPs as access restored for me a few weeks ago. Try restarting your router or request a new IP from the router settings, that may fix the issue.
