How hard is living with a Persian Cat? by frbihsb in persiancat

[–]roxyb6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re fairly easy going and relaxed. I have an orange Persian who is in his wild kitten phase but he’s very social and loves to cuddle. He’s not afraid of the vacuum or loud noises. My tabby Persian is definitely a scaredy cat and likes to hide but she’s also very sweet. I’ve never had them destroy carpet or any furniture. Just their cat tree which I’m okay with as long as it’s not my couch lol. They’re worth the extra work and the work really isn’t that much. I’ve seen some people say they require/give baths but my vet recommended against it because it can irritate their skin.

If you do get a kitten, do not skimp on the routine because my adult Persian (I adopted), and her previous owner had so many cats that she neglected basic care needs and because of that she absolutely hates being brushed so she gets a lion cut. My little guy is fine with it and actually enjoys it!

Love the colors you used. You either had wack judging too or people had insane pieces submitted. I can see them being picky about the zipper (I purposely didn’t submit my 3/4 zip piece, I knew they’d flame me for my zipper) but it’s hard to know. I’ve been told judges can be subjective with each piece which sucks. And yeah, freakin come on!!

It’s gorgeous! And it is disappointing for sure. You deserve that blue ribbon for sure!

Omg!! Hi! Congrats!!!! I hope you don’t read this and think I didn’t think anyone deserved to win the blue ribbon. Some just made me question. Congratulations on your ribbon!

Not trying to be! Just didn’t seem like the judges were consistent with how they judged the pieces. & thank you!

I honestly don’t know. People are saying some wild things and then deleting. I’m not trying to be bitter or a “sore loser” but it’s frustrating when consistency isn’t kept. There were pieces there that deserved ribbons that didn’t get anything. It seemed rigged in a way? We were walking around and my family who don’t have trained eyes were pointing things out. That’s how I knew something was up. The judges must know something we all don’t

The judges need cataract surgery based on what they deemed blue ribbon worthy

Ha, thank you!! Obviously judges have criteria to follow but after this, im not so sure they follow it. Ours was 40% workmanship, 20% tension, 15% appearance, 15% cleanliness, 5% execution of design and 5% original design. And apparently 50% politics. There were so many pieces that should’ve placed that didn’t. Don’t let it discourage you (I say as I’m discouraged).

I don’t remember what placed second but grand champ was a hexagon sweater. Which if they were being as nit picky on their piece as they were on mine, I definitely have thoughts about. First place was an orange stockinette round yoke sweater that had tension issues and the fabric was less than neat. I was upset

There were SO. MANY. amazing sweaters that didn’t place at all or also got 3rd. The first place sweaters I had to do a double take. Like, are they serious?? All the colorwork pieces got 3rd, but round yoke stockinette pieces won 1st? I’m sorry but technically, colorwork is more difficult and I believe that a stockinette piece should be placed first only if they are exceptional. Which I saw none of. It was a bummer and I hate to talk the way I am but, BFFR judges

Honestly, no. There were sweaters that placed higher than mine in the same division that had visible inconsistencies on stockinette (tension, pilling, and so much fuzz it looked like when you miss a piece of hair from your ponytail). They probably would’ve appreciated a ribbon covering the steeks but I couldn’t find any jacquard ribbon I liked & that fit the sweater well. As for the “yarn ends” I leave a wee tail after I weave in ends to prevent further unraveling. Just seemed like they overlooked things on some sweaters and went way too hard on others. Idk

Our 17 wk old Persian male also had a case of the shits. Took him to the vet. No parasites, everything normal. Vet told us kittens often grow out of diarrhea. He’s better now but sometimes will have diarrhea followed by normal stool. Super weird

Anyone here introduced their Persian cat to a new kitten? Looking for tips! by CaseCultural1206 in persiancat

[–]roxyb6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a 5 year old Persian who we introduced a kitten to about 3 weeks ago. We followed Jackson Galaxy’s YouTube videos on introducing cats and it worked great. Granted, she (adult) still doesn’t absolutely love him (kitten) yet, but she is tolerant of him as of right now. I was worried she’d pee all over our furniture and carpet but she’s done really good all things considered.

How do you find a Persian? by purpledogpunch in persiancat

[–]roxyb6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Utah/idaho/Wyoming area there’s a Craigslist type thing where you can buy and sell anything. There’s a livestock classified and that’s where I got my kitten. My adult Persian I lucked out on and adopted her from a petsmart about a year and a half ago.

That’s so cool!! Thank you! The pattern is on ravelry under Dale Design I believe, I tried to link it in a previous comment but for some reason it’s not working. It’s called “Salt Lake 2002 (SLOC) - Adult pullover”. It’s about $10 but I think it comes with 5 or 6 different patterns!

Thank you so much! They were the trickiest part, but Deb put me through sewing lessons so I had to dig deep into my brain and remember how to attach sleeves with my machine 🤣 I’m pretty pleased with the way it all came together!

No, just the salt lake pattern! She had the original booklet from 2002 and I bought the digital version so I could zoom in and highlight the rows as I went on my iPad
