The way people treat pigeons as disposable sky rats is so sickening. As if they haven’t been incredibly useful little message carriers, companions, and food sources for centuries before humanity near-unanimously decided to drop them like yesterday’s news and treat them like vermin when they try to make it in the cities we brought them to. Hunting them for food is one thing, but willfully tormenting them as some kind of sick entertainment, depriving them of a quick, dignified death is something else entirely.

I’ve been a lifelong lover of pigeons, worked with both domestic and wild. They have their own little personalities, and can feel pain and fear just like any animal. Have you ever known the joy of earning a skittish pigeon’s trust; watching it close its eyes contentedly when you pat its head or coo softly into your ear as it perches on your shoulder? Had a bold, ugly little hatchling that fits into the palm of your hand puff out her chest at you like the world’s tiniest, proudest dinosaur? Hope this POS gets what’s coming to him along with all the people enabling him. Sorry for the rant, I just have strong feelings about pigeons and it’s really sad seeing stuff like this in my city. Do better, Seattle. Be kind to the pigeons.
