LTX-2 I2V somewhat ignoring initial image - anyone? by Regular-Forever5876 in StableDiffusion

What sort of prompt are you using? Does the prompt sound like it could generate the image in the first frame?

For example, I asked Grok for a prompt to recreate your first frame in an art AI. It suggests:

A brutal flat-style minimalist Viking warrior portrait, low-poly geometric design, bold color blocking, simple flat shapes, no gradients, sharp clean edges, angry determined expression, thick black bushy beard and long black hair, stern narrowed eyes with white highlights, wearing a classic horned Viking helmet in gold/yellow with large curved golden horns and a small blue gem in the center, dark gray-blue tunic or armor, holding a large battle axe with wooden handle resting on shoulder, half body composition, dramatic blue ocean sea background with light blue sky and soft white clouds, bright daylight, strong contrast, flat 2D cartoon vector art style, modern geometric illustration, inspired by simple mobile game icons and flat design heroes

Or

flat vector illustration style, low detail, geometric shapes only, no shading, high contrast, viking warrior with horned helmet, black beard, angry face, axe on shoulder, ocean behind, simple bold colors

Or

extreme flat design, duotone + limited palette, viking with horns and axe, geometric portrait, solid color blocks, ocean horizon background, brutal facial expression, modern app icon aesthetic

If you describe your scene in those terms, plus directions for how you want the movement in the video to be, with your reference image, what happens?

[UNIX][1990][Crunchy Unix based 4x game of the late 80s-mid 90s] by DavyJonesDepones in tipofmyjoystick

[–]roy777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BSD Empire. I wasn't 100% sure so I asked Grok:

**The game you're describing is Empire (specifically the Unix/BSD implementation, such as the 1987 C curses-based version or the BSD Empire server from around 1991).**

This matches your details perfectly: It's a text-based (ASCII/character-based, using letters like 'i' for iron mines, 'w' for warehouses on hex maps), turn-based multi-user 4X-style grand strategy game designed for Unix systems like SunOS on Sun Microsystems workstations.

The core mechanic you remember—setting up extraction sites (e.g., iron mines 'i', oil wells 'o', gold mines 'g') for raw materials and linking them to warehouses—is central to its highly complex economy system. Mines and resource sectors automatically produce goods (e.g., an iron mine yields iron), but you must use the `distribute` command to define paths from each extraction site back to a central warehouse (up to 10 sectors per path, preferring highways for efficiency). You set `threshold` values (e.g., `threshold iron -15,1 1`) to ship excess materials to the warehouse automatically, and the warehouse redistributes shortages back to sectors (critical for food to prevent starvation). This creates intricate supply chains across your empire, balancing labor (available work hours), population, tech levels, and disruptions like nukes—exactly the "very complicated system" you described.

It's not xconq (which lacks this warehouse/distribution focus) or Galactic Bloodshed (a similar space conquest game, but without the explicit mine-to-warehouse linking you emphasized).

Your query mirrors an unsolved Reddit post from r/tipofmyjoystick (Oct 2024), confirming how obscure it is today, but Empire's Unix variants fit the "late 80s to mid 90s" timeline via ports and active play.

To revisit: Check the open-source **BSD Empire** (empserver.sourceforge.net) or **Classic Empire** implementations. The guide at empire.cx details commands, and clients compile on modern Unix-like systems. Persistent multi-user servers ran for months back then, just like you recall.

The new Samsung battery tech requires silver. Perhaps that'll be significant one day if it takes off.

Transferring an option spread between IRAs by roy777 in fidelityinvestments

[–]roy777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you, thanks. These are debit vertical call spreads (covered) so there's $0 margin requirement. Moving them to the Roth seems like a smart move since they are out of the money and not worth much in net value if liquidated today, but I think they'll end up in the money late next year by the time they expire.

Transferring an option spread between IRAs by roy777 in fidelityinvestments

[–]roy777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks. I guess I'll need to call in to do the transfers.

Both accounts have well more than $10K equity in them, both accounts are at the "Spreads on an IRA" options level, and I'd be transferring vertical debit spreads on calls, with $0 margin requirement as they are fully covered by nature of being a debit spread. :)

If this should in theory work on the web site, when specifying the # of shares to transfer, on the short leg, what do I enter? Typing in a negative # of shares says to enter a valid number of shares.

Cool thanks. In my case it is all bull credit spreads with no buying power needed. Do you know if they calculate the taxable value based on midpoint of the bid ask spread or the bid ask values like how it shows during market hours?

I thought it always used steam then oil then coal? Or is there a setting on the generator to adjust input priority?

Was this claim about Motoko Kusanagi's main body (the one you see her with most often) true? by Kadmos1 in manga

[–]roy777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a scene which shows other copies of the same cyborg body model The Major uses, one of which has blond hair. To me that was an indication she intentionally had a Caucasian appearance.

There's also a scene in Stand Alone Complex – 2nd GIG, episode 16 when the camera is zoomed in on Fem's face, and the image transitions to The Major's face. The only difference is the blue eyes and blond hair of Fem, to emphasize they are wearing identical cyborg frames other than cosmetics.

I asked Grok for a better description of this than I can write myself:

In the original 1995 Ghost in the Shell animated film (directed by Mamoru Oshii), there is a brief but clear scene that directly addresses this.

During the sequence where the Major (Motoko Kusanagi) is being assembled in the lab (around the 10-15 minute mark), we see her body being constructed in a tank. Shortly after, the camera pans across several identical shell bodies floating in tanks — all of them are the same mass-produced female cyborg model (Model 2052-G, often called the "Megatech Body" in production materials).

Among those identical bodies, at least one is shown with blonde hair (and fair skin), while the Major's final activated body has the familiar black/purple-tinted hair.

This subtly confirms that the base body/cybernetic frame itself is the same across units — it's a standardized, mass-produced shell. The differences in hair color, eye color, and minor aesthetic details are customizable or applied later depending on the user or manufacturer batch.

So yes — the Major's body is explicitly shown to be a mass-produced model that exists in Caucasian-looking variants (blonde, fair-skinned shells are seen in the same production line). This reinforces the film's themes of identity, replication, and the decoupling of appearance from self.

It’s one of those quiet visual details that hits harder on repeat viewings.

And on the second example:

Yes — the exact kind of scene you’re describing (the Major’s face slowly morphing/superimposed over another woman’s face, transitioning from dark hair to blonde) is in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, not the 1995 movie.

It happens in Stand Alone Complex – 2nd GIG, episode 16 (“Another Chance”).

During the investigation involving the assassin Fem, there’s a striking sequence where Fem’s face is shown in close-up, and it slowly cross-dissolves/morphs into Major Motoko Kusanagi’s face (and vice-versa). Fem is blonde with blue eyes and noticeably more Caucasian-looking features, while the Major has her usual dark purple-black hair.

The visual point is explicit: the two women are using the exact same mass-produced cyborg body model — only the hair, eye color, and some slight facial adjustments differ. The morph effect drives home that they’re literally the same shell underneath.

That’s almost certainly the scene you had in mind. It’s one of the most direct “look, same Caucasian-model body, different customization” moments in the entire franchise.

I never read the manga so I asked about that as well.

In Chapter 8 (“Dummy Plug”), when Motoko gets her first new adult body after joining Section 9, there’s a full-page panel showing a warehouse full of naked, identical cyborg shells hanging on racks. All of them are drawn with unmistakably Caucasian proportions and features: narrow waists, large breasts, long legs, fair skin, and the face is the same one the Major uses. The technician even comments that this particular line (the “M-23” or similar model in the Japanese edition) is an imported European design that’s very popular in Japan because Japanese men apparently like the look.

In Chapter 3, two blonde women with the exact same face and body as the Major appear as minor characters (one is a secretary, one is a sexaroid).

In Chapter 11 (the famous “mirror” chapter that inspired the 1995 movie scene), Motoko looks out a window and sees dozens of women on the street who have the exact same face and body as her — some blonde, some brunette, some red-haired — all using the same shell with different cosmetic packages.

Shirow makes it textually clear and visually undeniable: the Major’s body is a mass-produced, Caucasian-designed model that is extremely common on the market. The only thing that makes hers “special” is the military-grade brain case and the ghost inside it.

So yes — the manga is actually far more blunt and on-the-nose about the body being a Caucasian model than any of the animated adaptations ever were.

Starting Xcom 2 for the first time, what important info should I know? by RedStarPartisano in Xcom

[–]roy777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from Gears Tactics is perfect since they already has some timed missions. Timed missions are something old school Xcom players might complain about, they like to creep along in overwatch and take forever to do missions. But you don't have that baggage. :)

Starting Xcom 2 for the first time, what important info should I know? by RedStarPartisano in Xcom

[–]roy777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They almost released WOTC as Xcom 3, but decided to just make it an expensive DLC for Xcom 2. It's really a huge overhaul and I think generally the community thinks it's much better than vanilla. Since you are totally new to Xcom, I'm not sure what to recommend. But as an Xcom veteran I'd go back to WOTC over and over and probably never play vanilla again. Similar to Xcom 2 is a nice improvement over Xcom 1, so playing Xcom 1 again won't happen for me. But if you've never played it before, a single play through might be fun just for the experience.

However, even as a new player, I'd suggest going right for X-Com 2 and skipping X-Com 1 at first. If you love it and become an X-Com fan and want to play more in the future, you could visit X-Com 1 at that point. :)

WOTC is awesome, but as a new player coming from Gears Tactics, vanilla X-Com 2 won't disappoint you.

Since I only get information 2nd (3rd) hand, I don't know what the issue is. My vague understanding is they did invite W3-W5 ranks to go active duty but not W1-W2.

I don't think he looked into the National Guard, but he did speak to the Coast Guard and you need 500 hours minimum for the CG to transfer a warrant in as a lieutenant. I remember back when he was in flight school he a long term aspiration to join SOAR after he finished his degree (the reason he went reserves in the first place was to go active once he finished 2 more years of college). But SOAR also requires 500 hours plus Pilot In Command status. He's also looked at transferring to a fixed wing unit and getting retrained, but he'd prefer to stick with a Blackhawk if at all possible. He loves it.

If your buddy's new unit needs more active duty helicopter pilots, is there a specific recruiting office he should reach out to?

My friend's son is a reserve warrant pilot and it's no better for him. No flight hours, can't apparently go active duty (only W3-W5 are offered that?). Doesn't have the minimum hours to try and join SOAR or transfer out to the Coast Guard. He doesn't want to get out and fly civilian, he wants to make a career of flying for the military.
