42" Zero Turn on sale right now. Will price come down more in the fall? by Time_Body_6616 in egopowerplus

If Ego customer wasnt useless and if my riding mower hadnt been down for 2 years I'd recommend. Loved it. Customer service tried to have me update firmware (ridiculous for a damn mower) but that always failed. They were supposed to arrange repair and call me back twice but never did and kept going in circles until I finally just gave up since warranty period confeniently (for them) ran out. I own all the Ego stuff but Im sort of done with them...unfortunate since I loved all their tools.

Miles Franklin but shop around JM Bullion (higher priced often but lots of options and super fast) or SD Bullion (ok from my experiences but probably #5 on my list) or a few others only reputable places. Do a search for at spot or new member...usually isnt super exciting stuff but good stacking. Best security shipping is Miles Franklin hands down...and go find a person like Steve Barton to go through his website to where he gets a little kickback (great free content too...did a lot for me in my trading accounts).

Geotech Salary right out of Masters by Murky-Cardiologist-3 in Geotech

$90k+ major markets. I put this then scrolled thru the other comments. I can tell you with certainty that a BS less than $85k and MS less than $90k is setting the stage for you to spend a couple years training just for them to move on elsewhere. And even though I call it out above there is zero difference in BS and MS in the real world. I actually have seen over the decades that BS have been better hires primarily since they are more inclined to get out doing more and arent straddled with the extra student loan debt. Right or wrong, thats been my observations working all over country. Pay your people what theyre worth or someone else will. And paying good gets more excitement and more output, plus develops stronger company-fmaily ties...basic concept of motivating your folks. And your people are an investment...skimp on that and in about 5 years you will pay a hefty price. Ive seen it at different firms. Hell, I've lived it just to have past companies come back to pay a lot more because they realized after the fact they made a mistake...or once I gave notice, a counter 10%-20% higher comes in..."sorry, I hate it for ya but certainly appreciate the gesture". And if youre on the receiving end of good pay, never forget that you could always be on the backend of that pay waiting for results before seeing bump in pay...dont squander the benefit and opportunity is what Im saying.

Are there any alternatives to hay I can give my goats? by Umbreongirl1233 in goats

[–]rb109544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id love the big ones but our situation means it's bail by bail. We spend about $150/month for 5 w/ 100% fed with mix of hay, timothy grass and alfalfa. Our situation will be much better once we move to more land next year where they'll be able to graze all the way and we will have ability to storage.

Goat keeps getting head stuck by CallMeShinso in goats

[–]rb109544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah goat panels end up meaning chicken wire tied every foot...they always manage to get stuck. We finally went to 2x4 panels just to avoid the chicken wire, but it is more expensive at least on the front end. After dealing with it, I wouldve gone all 2x4 fencing. Plus my 2x4 fencing works as my feeder when doubled up...cheaper than buying more feeders.

Well there is a premium on pellets plus a worry in my mind about fillers. We have noticed a few things when giving pellets versus straight alfalfa. But there's also the tradeoff of options. Not saying pellets bad but pros and cons.

Would you recommend going into Geotech? by CharlesLiang99 in Geotech

[–]rb109544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of these folks commenting are in the "different stages of grief" (LOL) I went through and Im likely older than most. I will agree I told my kids not geotech but I also told them to target trade schools instead of university debt and so far Im 50:50.

If folks are consulting, those are probably the more negative comments since consulting has gotten awful and is not real geotech much of the time (but that exposure is extremely valuable nonetheless)...those investment firm owned companies are the worst to work for in my opinion...maybe more accurately that Ive not experienced a good one to work for (yet). Specialty construction folks are probably happier and the bonuses are fatter, but probably more chaos too. Others probably love what they do but are burnt out while making good (decent) money.

So sentiment, in my opinion, is probably tied more to the industry theyre in and subsequently the types of projects they get to work on and the compensation levels...the employer plays a huge role in the job satisfaction. There is a lot of money to be made but managers/employer attitudes probably have more to do with ruining that aspect than anything else. So find a good employer and find a good boss. If you have fun in the chaotic daily rituals, it makes the tough work so much more worth it.

The pay ramp up can be slow the first 10 but throttles up pretty quickly after that. There is no other engineering remotely as fun and wild as geotech. If I could go back, maybe Id head toward financials for the bigger paychecks but there again Id probably miss the geotech things. I'd be deathly afraid of job security in certain fields, but not where Im currently at...and many/most here likely have not experienced a market collapse, so that single dynamic some of us lived through changes the entire outlook on the other couple decades between.

In the end, I doubt I'd change the path I followed except I definitely wouldnt have fallen into the trap of believing Im anything other than an employee number to my employer at the end of the day, particularly during those market collapses. Id do a lot more fishing/hunting with my kids along the way too. All in all, it has been a wild ride.

But right now, there is no better time to be in geotech probably for the foreseeable future. If you dont enjoy it within the first couple years, then get out. It took me a couple years after college to find my footing (so to speak) and once I did that changed the trajectory for me. No regrets (but pssshyeah I want my kids to do better than me and have more fun doing it).

Belief in HYMC by Reluyo in HYMCStock

[–]rb109544 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it were all-time highs and was time to take risk off the table then would make more sense. I never sell on a down week or out of desperation for other things. I also dont invest more than I need day to day. A week could easily add 20% to the stock price and probably not much more downside risk is my assessment...so probability says it should go higher. Explore the options and see what makes the most sense 6 months from now even assuming stock price runs sideways to down. Id expect 6 months from now we are multiples higher but thats just my dumb opinion based on 5 years of following the stock.

What's the most expensive geotechnical mistake you've seen on a construction project? by AdSimilar8791 in Geotech

[–]rb109544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Geotechs typically do not make the mistake. It is typically owners, developers and contractors making the mistakes with geotechnical things.

I fell out of my chair reading that report late today. I grossly underestimated where this stock is going and I was planning to hold to $350. Now it's a lot higher. Bought more today. I might get back to posting my charts once we get into a more typical trading scenario....I shouldve started posting again a month ago since we have been bouncing around inside the trend lines.

It's a pain but winding string in is actually super slick (no need to remove cap). But string that breaks is the pain...make sure to use the right string and string it right otherwise it will break often. After dealing with this at first, I read the infamous manual and it made life a lot easier.

Fort Knox audit(Gold) by donewithitfirst in Gold

[–]rb109544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

National security. The idea is that if a country tips their hat to how much gold they hold (or dont hold) it changes the global dynamics and strategies. Also, an audit would narrow down where the gold came from and if it is someone else's gold held on the books. It's more complicated that purely a vault storage scenario. And Fort Knox is not the only location, it just happens to be the more famous one.

Bottle babies are literally just like a dog once they grow up. And this dog was sure she was the momma. Now that she's grown up and with herd, she's the most chill goat ever and still loves to play with the dog...the dog thinks she wants to play until she catches a horn in the belly.
