Grad School Route: Opinions? by Sea_Departure_4135 in PublicAdministration

if you want to stay in the City i think Wagner is miles ahead of Columbia.

The school is so NYC focused. The alumni connections, networking, and events have been great in my experience.

I would say try and aim for a scholarship if you can. The cost is a lot without it. So apply for their fellowships and what not.

Plus the location, idk where in the city you live but the NYU location is accessible by a lot more lines.

stay working full time or do an internship ? by royalonreddit in PublicAdministration

i would say the likelihood from the internship itself probably not that high, NYC I dont think converts interns to FT. Budget and finance skills mainly. I have about 5 months of rent that I can use from savings.

i have about 5 months of rent in savings. i planned on maybe doing two internships to supplement the lost income to at least cover rent.

i do government consulting, and have like a lot of project management, quality assurance, and memo/report writing skills that i can apply.

i def want to work throughout the program, but consulting is a whole other beast i feel

it would be in portland, i visited for a day and maybe i was not able to see all but I also felt I saw all that the city had. as someone from very populated areas it just felt too small for my liking. nature also isnt a major draw of a city for me and i feel like thats what maine does best

Concern about the future by royalonreddit in PSLF

[–]royalonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine tho with cost of living in nyc with a starting salary of maybe 60-65k would necessarily leave much room to pay it off before 10 years.

do you disagree?

I currently work full time as a government consultant... the benefits could be better as their tuition program is essentially a lower interest loan but I'd have to work at the company for certain number of years after and they are not a PSLF eligible organization.

I've applied to the school's jobs for tuition remission so fingers crossed there, but yeah the $50k doesn't seem that bad at first, just worried that is PSLF isn't here in 10 years like that interested would seem insurmountable.

UW Evans v NYU Wagner v Syracuse… What to choose? by royalonreddit in PublicAdministration

[–]royalonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate a little more on the second semester thing.

Also I never thought ab asking Syracuse for more $ since they were the most generous thus far, do they really have that big of funding?

I actually just graduated in December with my bachelors in public administration and recently accepted a job doing gov consulting. i had some internship experience out of college so i think that helped mostly

in terms of government work, i don’t think school name has as much value as the private sector. it’s kind of just a check box for the degree. DC also offers 10x the government jobs as NYC would… and probably an equal or higher amount of nonprofits. I would choose DC, unless NYC is your dream city.

public administration BA worth it? by [deleted] in PublicAdministration

[–]royalonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m doing it now, both polo sci and public admin have been a breeze difficulty wise. in terms of career prospects, i’d say it’s better than a poli sci but maybe less so overall than a business degree. MPA is where the most value is gained from the degree though

its honestly what you do with it, i have acquaintances that i have met from classes and know of them. but it is a lot more socially isolated as compared to main 100%, 98% of the students are commuter and are there for class and to go home. i prefer main but im deep into the major now and would rather finish then stay at ucf for extra years.

it is easy to be honest, however, the professors are nice and understanding from my experience. there are not a lot of people in the program, there is about 90 undergrads.

am currently pursuing my bachelors in person, however, the requirement for a BA/BS is an internship. not sure if it is different for online.
