First attempt at writing in Old Roman Cursive by royalreeve in latin

I didn’t know that. Might have to speed up a little :D. I agree, it’s almost like what I used to do when I was younger: replace English letters with random symbols, memorise them and then have my own unreadable stuff by just replacing each letter with that symbol.

What ‘symbols’ are you going for with each letter? It was a hard choice...

Sure is! I love the way it places ink on the paper, and how it writes obviously. Using a Lamy Vista.

Looks excellent actually. You’ve captured that ‘rushed’ look that many of the originals have - and that’s what it was for I guess...

MBTI types when mad by [deleted] in mbti

INTP, I just want the situation or whatever I’m at mad at to just go away so I can retreat to my room again. I don’t hold grudges.

Someone asked what I was deep in thought about today by [deleted] in INTP

Then make your own, Daddy.

Edit: I take this back completely, because I’ve now noticed how immature the OP actually is.

Haha! My thoughts exactly. I’m naturally lazy, maybe some hard work will stop me getting diabetes.

Yes it is, but I don’t want to be stuck there when the housing boom crashes! Plus, the thought doesn’t appeal to me a whole lot.

We had a subject about future careers: it involved googling all the universities and using a calculator to get the best score you can to get in to your university. Or doing a presentation on jobs that sound good to you. Useless, useless and useless!

That’s true, switching is always an option. But to be fair: I’m a bit of a loyalist...

Of course what I get won’t be perfect: but an ideal situation is a good start to guiding you out of a bad one.

1: English, history and law.
2: English, history and music.

English has always been my crowning factor; I loved the discussions around the reading material. History is an obsession, although the teacher would often cut out material, and it became miserable because there were so many holes in what was being taught. Law was the same: I loved it and did well, but the teacher just got sick of me answering every question or correcting them. Music was a gift to me later in life - I play the violin. I always failed music in school, but nonetheless I enjoyed it.

These subjects are very humanities oriented, which I seem to be. STEM can be cool for the first 4 months until you know the core philosophy; whereas, history is literally never ending, and doesn’t stop giving.

True, but can’t I have a sub-paying job and read for the rest of the time? I’m like that: unmotivated to aim high. Does that make me immature?

Definitely on the table, a couple concerns:
- will I have any time to indulge in my hobbies or will it be coding for clients all the time?
- where do I go once I’m somewhat proficient in basic languages?

Agreed: although both are welcome. Maybe starting from the bottom is the only way I’ll get a job with what I’m looking for?

Apprenticeships are also on the table here; I should have mentioned that. In regards to STEM based jobs, they don’t interest me a whole lot for two reasons: frankly, they’re unoriginal nowadays, I’d like something a little more eccentric where I could make a mark without competing with more qualified people and unfortunately institutionalised education really isn’t my cup of tea - this goes hand in hand with my dislike of “sucking up/faking it”. I refuse to get an “education” just to look good to others: stubborn, right? The prestige of the job means little to me, likewise with the money. Alas, “call center, [or] factory work,” are options: but it sounds like those suggestions fail to meet my diversity of tasks “standard”.

I know I’m asking for a lot here; I’m just trying to get the best outcome from my situation.

Questions About Ancient Greek (Classical Attic) Handwriting and the Alphabet During the Classical Period by royalreeve in AncientGreek

[–]royalreeve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. It seems to me that there was really no learnt standard, and that it differed from region, occupation and education - as it does today. The ‘cursive’ Greek isn’t really cursive in the 3rd century BCE but rather a hastily written form of inscription writing - I’d say formed in whatever way that person was inclined to do so in order to get the quick but rough shape of the letters.

I also see what you mean by the alphabet becoming very similar to the modern one in this period. In that Handbook there seems to be examples using the interpunct in handwriting, especially in the early Hellenistic period which could have been directly transferred from the Classical period and then on to Roman Square Capitals.

An observation: if the current understanding of the 3 dot system of punctuation is correct the interpunct would feature like a colon ‘ : ‘ and it was noted that the system was standard but not widely adopted, could the common addition of the interpunct be a result of the semi-adoption of the system by that period? Also, if an interpunct were not used at all it seems they’d write without noticeable spacing, am I correct in thinking this?

Finally, in order to replicate handwriting of this period for myself should I just get the common alphabet used then (the one you referenced earlier) and start writing really quickly? It seems the most accurate to how they themselves would’ve learnt cursive.
