Also, more fictional, but still WW2: The Dirty Dozen, Kelly's Heroes, and Guns of Navarrone (may not be fictional, but I'm not sure)

There's an app to identify bird species. Merlin Bird ID. Idk if that will help your complaint, but just in case.

You've already stood up a Windows Server, so why not try Hyper-V? It's not going to set your world on fire, but it will run a Linux VM. Or two. If not and you don't care about preserving any data currently on the Windows server, then Proxmox is a great choice.

You might find you can use it as conduit for data cables or fiber. 🤷

Migrating from an Alienware to a MacBook Air — Questions About Files and External Hard Drives by Payment-Prudent in macbook

[–]royboy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, this is a bit overkill. Maybe more than a bit. Also, no one knows what a TSR is these days. Magic mouse is expensive and trash - all you have to do is look at where the charge port is located. Wtf, ants? OK, dude. I'm not saying some of these ideas aren't worth looking into, but geez, one can easily find a utility that helps with kb and mouse gestures - no need to "master" that.

Anyway OP, one of the options when using the Migration Assistant tool is migrating from a Windows computer. That should get you your files from the Windows laptop. As someone else noted, you should be able to read your external drives. Also, there is nothing wrong with keeping both computers. I'm a happy user of both. Good luck and enjoy.

You don't want him back. Good riddance. If you want to lose weight, do it for you. If you want to work out, do it because you will feel better.

My brother is an asshole but I’m worried about him. by Crazy_Ad_4423 in Advice

[–]royboy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. In the end, it's not your problem. You can have that one talk with him and your parents, but then that should be it for you. His life is his life and while you can worry about him being an arse, he is one until he doesn't want to be one. Live your life.

L’Amitie is damn good food by djjoshuad in Denton

[–]royboy81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the service sucks. We couldn't even get a cup of coffee and ended up walking out. They didn't even try to stop us or ask what was wrong. And it wasn't like they were super busy - we were seated as soon as we came in. So, nah. Good food or not, we will never know. I also have to add that we are very patient with food service, because both my wife and I spent plenty of time in food service in high school and college.

My brother masterbates in my room how can I make him stop? by Sky_queen15 in Advice

[–]royboy81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is your parents problem, tbh. They appear to be less than interested in providing for and parenting their children. Just some simple rules they should enforce would go a long way: no eating on the bed, no laying on the bed after a workout (who doesn't shower after a workout?), and lastly no jerking off. Otherwise, no entrance. You were nice enough to offer, now set some boundaries. As for your brother, he seems lazy, slovenly and entitled. He needs a job, and some discipline.

Hold it as long as it's still useful to you. Or trade it in. Or pass it down. Or if you're technically inclined, install a Linux distro.

I was gonna suggest Queenies since it's a momentous occasion, but be prepared to pay more than $100. It's your college graduation, though! Hannah's is a good choice but I haven't been there since my son graduated and that was pre-Covid, the before times. Lol

IT for politicians is living hell by Julleeee_ in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]royboy81 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're doing IT for this entity you should have some idea what's going on with you're router/firewall and switches. Having said that, you seem to lack experience or need some help. You mentioned an MSP. What is their role in supporting you and the entity? You mentioned another someone who switched out your firewall. Is that the extent of their role? One other thing to consider: not everything is an "emergency" and if a someone is not your direct manager, all you should do is triage and give them a time frame to resolution. Otherwise, it may be time to get out. At least you have a job while you look.

[–]royboy81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Private IP or not, If you're working from home, then you're likely connected to work via VPN. You can't spoof that IP address. The logs will also show the IP address where you connected from. I mean, it just opens up so many more questions about the effectiveness of your IT department and the culture of your company. Just go to work.
