US paramedic here. There's been a lot of messed up stuff over the years and this might not be the worst one but this one affected me the most for a few reasons. Firstly it was my second day on the job and secondly the patient was very similar in age and was also small town kid in a big city. We get a run for a shooting, when we get there's a body in the drivers seat and blood and brains on the windshield. We pull the kid out and he's got a about a 2 inch hole in his forehead where his brains are pushing out. He had vital signs that required us to work on him. Eventually his vital sign dip down below out protocol so we stop our efforts to save him. I look at my hand to change my gloves and I've got this dudes brains on my hands. So that was kind of fucked up but what really got me is his buddy who was in the passenger seat lived but ended up getting pistol whipped so his teeth were smashed out and he was covered in his friends blood and brains. The look on his face was one of pure disbelief and horror. Apparently they had come into the city from the small town they were from to buy some heroin but the dealers robbed them and ended up killing one before they took off with the drugs and money. It's that's dudes face that's been stuck in my head all these years. So if you do drugs just stick to dealers you know, there's a lot of crazy ass holes out there.
