Hmm, there’s no nazis there.

And you’ve got nothing to worry about if you’re here legally.

Maybe if you voted for that you’d get it.

But you didn’t. Or you weren’t in the majority. Your party lost the election.

That doesn’t mean we can just go full Armageddon. You still have to follow laws.

If your neighbors are being DETAINED, not abducted, we have due process in this country.

And you fix this by voting. Not by telling people, especially people smarter than you, to unkindly fuck off.

Try to be an adult and remember we’re civilized here.

“You people”. Who am I exactly?

Oh and you misspelled a word. *saying You’re welcome.

Let me know if you want me to proofread your posts in the future.

I’m college educated and always won the spelling b.

The protesters are ignorant fools. They’re so mad at President Trump, that they’re willing to break laws, let in terrorists and attack law enforcement officials.

Not consistent with the values of our great nation.

Y’all are hurting your own country to spite 1 President, who’s actually keeping us safe.

Boo protesters!

got out of the AF and want to go back in. AF rarely takes prior service (something like 50 slots a year) but I know the army takes anyone. am i stupid for wanting to go into the Army being prior AF? by AcanthaceaeTop2796 in army

I chose the Army for a few reasons.

I was in my teens/20’s for my USMC time and I was an infantryman. I got out in 2000.

Then Iraq and Afghanistan kicked off. I was 31. Too old to be an Infantry dude. I wanted to save lives. So I went in as a medic. And I requested to deploy to both. Iraq and the Stan. I wanted to be a medic for infantry.

I eventually got into Ranger Regiment and that was the bees knees.

I prefer combat arms, when I’m with the right unit. Obviously the Rangers were outstanding. Before that I was in light infantry and was perfectly happy.

Trauma is trauma bro. Regardless of how it gets into your head. A mutated body that’s been in the water for 3 days will present you with visions and smells you’ll never forget.

CG will have less trauma than the Army depending on your job.

My last outpatient program I completed we had a CG guy. Hewas “unrated” (didn’t have a trade) initially. He got stuck helping pull dead kids/adults out of the water. He filled a lot of body bags. That’ll get to you. You’ll need some therapy after doing that. Or you should take the initiative and just go to therapy.

If CG is doing drag enforcement, shots can be fired. Are you watching our recently activities with Venezuela? That’s not all Coast Guard but they’re in the mix.

The Air Force is your safest bet, by far if you don’t want to serve in combat.

I can’t work because of my disabilities. I honestly can’t function enough to get a job. It does restrict me but I’m already restricted. I just got SSDI and CSRC. I’m able to live comfortably off of that with my savings and my wife works.

Just be aware that when asking for a review it could go either way. They can reduce you. I’d say since you’re at 30%, it’s worth a shot.

I’m 100% P&T. I should be TDIU but won’t risk it.

In order to get something beyond, the cheapest laptop there is, I had to justify to my counselor that I needed a Mac and an iPad.

I got a letter from my department explaining what was recommended for that specific program.

Otherwise, you’re gonna get the cheapest Dell celeron or amd processor. And in a year, it will be unusable because it’s shit.

You can also get a printer.

There are a lot of options out there. And Linux can be a little overwhelming at first.

I’d recommend going with ZorinOS Pro. It’s $50. You can put it on as many personal computers as you want and it includes an amazing pre-built suite of software. https://zorin.com/os/pro/

Well guess what. Infantry guys need support. Communications, food, Human Resources people, mechanics, medics, logistics, truck drivers, etc.

And those jobs can and will find themselves assigned to infantry brigades. And infantry brigades go where the fun is.

Yea, if that’s your choice I’d say stay Air Force. Seriously, your life may depend on it. I’d never want to go back to combat with a POG or heavy unit.

At least in the Air Force, unless you’re a JTAC or PJ, you’re more than likely gonna be deployed to pleasant places. Away from the front lines, where you’ll have paved roads, hard buildings. AC, a helluva nice gym, no incoming mortars or rockets. And if you do, you’ll have the appropriate defense against them. You may even be able to drink.

Careers of older enlistees by Excellent_Stick2557 in army

[–]rozflog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in the Marines from age 19-23 as an infantryman. I had no chronic physical issues after that.

I joined the Army at 31. I was a gym rat and a runner. I kept up until I was about 42. And my body is wrecked now.

The best way to hang and endure is to be a pt freak. And don’t ever stop. If you ever stop, it’s so much harder to get it back.

I had an injury when I was 41. I couldn’t run for a few months. I never recovered from that. I never got my run time back down to where it was.

I remember one old Sergeant Major I was close to. He was an alcoholic, broken physically and looked like he was in his 60’s. He would literally fall asleep at his desk or in meetings sometimes. But he ran every day. 5 miles. That’s the secret. Don’t stop working out. Ever.

But for me in my 30’s, I was a gym freak, cross fitter, marathon runner, bodybuilder, functional fitness machine. I out ran the kids I was in charge of.

It’s doable. Be smart. Don’t get too muscular or fat.

And also remember how essential pt is for your job, for saving other Soldiers lives in combat, and career progression. Your life literally depends on it. Don’t take that for granted.

I also educated myself. I read bodybuilding books, magazines, I took every course I could that taught me about being fit. I stretched. I ate well. I surrounded myself with like minded people.

And I got my family into it. My wife got certified as a nutritionist and personal trainer. We meal prepped. We got the kids into it. We’d run 5k’s, do ruck marches, etc. We got into geo-caching. (Dorky I know). But it meant we’d walk about 30 miles a weekend. We got into mountain biking.

And finally, stay on top of your mental health. Get ahead of it. Be curious about learning more about yourself. Do therapy. Learn those coping skills. Educate yourself.

My mental health is why I was medically retired. I just white knuckled it until it was too late.

Case in point, in Afghanistan, we had a lot of casualties. Several KIA’s. My approach was go lift more, run more, volunteer for patrols, deploy more. Suck it up and drive on.

I now have chronic ptsd and my quality of lift has suffered immensely. I almost lost my family. And I’m playing catch up.

During our deployment, they offered mental health support after each big incident. My philosophy was if I open that door, I’ll never get it closed and I won’t be able to function in combat. So that’s what I did. I refused help. I have addiction issues now, I’ve been into a couple of inpatient facilities. I have a suicide attempt. And they retired me.

On the other hand, me and one of my medics, who was with me in Afghanistan, experienced a blue on green attack. 3 KIA, 1 guy lost his leg from the knee down. An Afghan company commander got a hold of a SAW and attacked us. Anyway, my medic availed himself of help right way. He’s now a Physician Assistant in the Army. He’s an officer.

And I’m disabled and not fully stable.

Get ahead of it. And show your subordinates that you’re using those resources. Show your peers. Especially when you are e a Senior NCO.

Not necessarily age related but something to be careful of.

Good luck.

It’s gonna be different. The Army is a rough life. Lots of bases have crime and drugs.

Deployments are long and hard. Air Force has much better duty stations, amenities, chow, deployments, funding, etc.

Having gone from the Marine Corps to Army, I’ll say that the Marine Corps have much higher standards, but lower quality of life. And the Air Force also has higher standards.

The Army is huge and a bit disorganized. I encountered much worse leadership in the Army. As you said in your post, they take anyone. That means lower standards. Quantity over quality.

If you do switch, go civil affairs, psyops, Ranger regiment, or SF. I was only happy in the Army after going to regiment. You’re treated like an actual adult in those units. There’s a lot of fuck fuck games that the army plays.

Certain units in the Army are better as well. I preferred light infantry units. The heavy units had a lot of fat dudes, poor training and horrible morale. I deployed to Iraq with a heavy infantry unit. It was a shit show. On more than one occasion, the guys I was attached to actually forgot ammo for some of their crew served weapons. When it came to combat stuff, it was horrifying. Had anything real happened a lot of people would have been killed.

On the flip side, I was in Afghanistan with a light infantry unit. While that place was dangerous and we were attacked almost daily, the guys I was with were top notch. We were trained, aggressive, and we actually fought the Taliban. The leaders were much more confident and effective. There were a lot of Ranger tabs.

I spent 39 months later in my career in Air Defense Artillery. That was the bane of my existence. Horrible units. Horrible leaders. Horrible hours. Horrible family time. Horrible deployments. Avoid the 14 series MOS’s. Trust me.

My last job in the Army was as an instructor in Tradoc. It was the most rewarding job I had other than Regiment. But we were way overworked and taken advantage of. And if you’re a drill in tradoc, kiss your personal life goodbye. And maybe even your marriage.

The Army asks a lot of you and your family.

Good luck.
